MLB Betting Odds – 2020 Atlanta Braves Win Total

When it comes to handicapping the Atlanta Braves regular season win total for 2020 the most important thing to remember is that it is indeed for the regular season. The Braves are notorious for their playoff failures, including last year, but in the regular season they have been good as gold. Atlanta won 97 games last year and 90 the season before that even as they were not expected to reach that number. The Braves have shown solid profits on the board in the past two seasons as well. This year it should be more of the same as Atlanta is again built to sustain success as a well-oiled machine.

2020 Atlanta Braves Win Total Odds Overview

Perhaps the best argument for the Braves going over the win total of 90.5 on the season is their division. The National League East starts with the upstart World Series champion Washington Nationals, who should take a big step back for 2020. The New York Mets faded badly down the stretch last September and many believe they were a fluke contender to begin with. The Philadelphia Phillies were grossly overrated due to the Bryce Harper hype and should not be much different from 2019 while the Miami Marlins remain one of the worst teams in baseball. With a disproportionate amount of games against these teams the Braves should hold their own, at the very least.

On the Hill

The Braves ranked 10th last year for staff earned run average and eighth for quality starts. The Atlanta bullpen ranked 11th in MLB. They remain one of the better overall pitching staffs in the Big Leagues for 2020.

Right hand starter Mike Soroka was a 2019 NL All-Star in his rookie season with a record of 13-4, 2.68 earned run average, and a WHIP of 1.11. Soroka dazzled the National League last year and is considered to have plenty of upside in the seasons to come.

Projected second starter Mike Foltynewicz took a step back in 2019 but still went 8-6 with a 4.54 earned run average. Part of his problem was that he could only go 117 innings compared to 183 the season before when he was 13-10 with a 2.85 earned run average. Atlanta expects Foltynewicz to return to his 2018 NL All-Star form in the campaign ahead.

Max Fried is indicative of the Braves depth at starting pitching. Last year Fried was 17-6 with a 4.02 earned run average in his first full season as a starter. He struck out 173 batters in 165.2 innings of work.

One area of concern is at closer where Mark Melancon has dropped in production since 2016 when he saved 47 games. He totaled only 12 saves for 2019 with a 3.61 earned run average.

At the Plate

First baseman Freddie Freeman is a four-time NL All-Star including the past two seasons. Freeman is coming off a career year in which he produced 113 runs, 34 doubles, 38 home runs, 121 runs batted in, a .295 average, .549 slugging percentage, and .938 OPS.

2018 NL Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuna is the man that stirs the Atlanta drink as leadoff hitter and a 2019 NL All-Star. Last year Acuna compiled 127 runs, 22 doubles, 41 home runs, 101 runs batted in, a .280 average, .518 slugging percentage, and .883 OPS.

2020 Atlanta Braves MLB Over Under Win Total Betting Odds Pick

Heading into the 2020 season the Braves are one of the most complete teams in baseball. Their payroll ranks in the upper third of the Big Leagues and they should again have their way in the National League East.
