At the onset of the 2020 Major League Baseball season only the Detroit Tigers are held in lower esteem with the gambling public than the Baltimore Orioles. Detroit has the lowest win total on the board at 47 with the Orioles next at 54. And based on the past couple of seasons its perfectly understandable. Baltimore was 47-115 in 2018 but “improved” to 54-108 last year. The Orioles have a multitude of problems starting with the fact that they play in the American League East. Even more important is that they have the lowest payroll in all of Major League Baseball. All told it is looking like another long year of red ink for the O’s in 2020.

2020 Baltimore Orioles Win Total at Bookmaker.eu: 54, over -130, under +100
Public perception could not be lower in regards to the Baltimore Orioles. But gamblers will want to keep one thing in mind when looking at their games this season. As one would expect Baltimore lost -5375 units in 2018 but that was decreased to -1950 units last year. Oddsmakers are pricing the Orioles opponents out of site. All of which means that anyone looking at Baltimore as a “go-against” team had better be prepared to pay!
American League East
One of the most difficult factors for the Orioles to overcome is the fact that they play in the American League East. With Major League Baseball’s unbalanced schedule, they will have a slate loaded against the powerhouse New York Yankees along with the perennial contender Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays. All of which adds to the difficulty for Baltimore to improve, let alone pick up extra wins for 2020.
Manager Brandon Hyde
The unfortunate Brandon Hyde had a rough first season as Orioles manager. Hyde was with the Chicago Cubs and famed manager Joe Maddon when they won the 2016 World Series, thus his stock rose as far as prospective managerial openings. But there is a big difference in talent between that championship Cubs team the Orioles roster based on a shoestring budget.
On the Hill
On a team in desperate need of positive news one source of light has been left hand starter John Means. The 27-year-old is slated to be the number one starter in the Baltimore rotation. All things considered his numbers were miraculous last year. Means was 12-11 with a 3.60 earned run average. His WHIP was 1.14 as he struck out 121 batters in 155 innings of work. In fact, Means was impressive enough to earn American League All Star honors in addition to his Baseball America Major League All-Rookie Team award.
Closer Mychal Givens didn’t exactly have a lot of save opportunities in 2019 playing for such a horrible club. Givens was 2-6 with a 4.57 earned run average to go with 11 saves and 86 strikeouts in 63.0 innings of work.
All told the Orioles may have the worst pitching staff in baseball. Last year they ranked 30th overall on the mound for earned run average.
At the Plate
Offensively Baltimore is nearly as bad.
Designated hitter Renato Nunez was one of the few productive players in the Orioles lineup last year. The third baseman hit .244 in his first season as a full-time starter with 24 doubles, 31 home runs, 72 runs, and 90 runs batted in. Imagine what he could do with some protection?
Baltimore Orioles 2020 Win Total Betting Odds Pick
This team is so bad that it’s a reach to think that anything good can happen to them. Winning 54 games would normally not be a big ask but it’s a hill too far for the 2020 Orioles.
