To say that the Detroit Tigers have been on a rebuild would be to say that Europe had to fix a few houses after World War II. Detroit blew it all up in 2017 but has gotten much worse instead of better. Last year was an utter debacle in which the Tigers finished 47-114. While that’s not quite 1962 Mets territory its certainly in the same area code. And for long time Detroit fans it was an eerily similar experience to the 2003 campaign in which the Tigers went 43-119. Attendance, which was surpassed three million fans as recently as 2013, has plummeted to a million and a half as of 2019. Worse yet, not much in the way of relief is expected. Gamblers have long ago decided the Motor City Kitties were a terminal disease to their bankrolls. Thus, the over under win total of 56.5 for the 2020 season.

2020 Detroit Tigers Win Total Odds at Bookmaker.eu: 56.5, -120 over, -110 under
Consider that the Tigers went 64-98 in the two seasons prior to last year’s implosion. Worse still Detroit has consistently been one of the biggest money losers on the MLB board for the past three seasons. As a matter of fact, Detroit has finished in the black against the baseball odds just once in the last eight campaigns. Only the pathetic Kansas City Royals rate their equal in an American League Central where the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians, and Chicago White Sox are considered to be vastly superior.
Manager Ron Gardenhire
There was a time when Ron Gardenhire was living relatively large as manager of the Minnesota Twins from 2002 through 2014. During his run in the Twin Cities, Gardenhire led Minnesota to the post season a total of six times. Gardenhire has suffered through the past two seasons in Detroit with the hope that he will still be around when the rebuilding project kicks into gear.
On the Hill
Left hand starter Matthew Boyd is expected to anchor the Tigers rotation as the number one starter. Boyd was 9-12 with a 4.56 earned run average and a WHIP of 1.23 last year. But when you consider the terrible team that he plays on those numbers are hardly disgraceful.
Veteran right hander Jordan Zimmerman is far past his peak production when he was a past valued member of the Washington Nationals. Zimmerman, who is the projected number two starter for Detroit, was 1-13 with a 6.91 earned run average and 1.53 WHIP in 2019.
Right hander Spencer Turnbull has also suffered as a Tiger starter. Turnbull was a sad 3-17 with a 4.61 earned run average and WHIP of 1.44 last season, his second in the Big Leagues.
Closer Joe Jimenez finished with a 4-7 record and nine saves for 2019 with a 4.37 earned run average and WHIP of 1.32. He did strikeout 82 batters in 59.2 innings of work.
At the Plate
Designated hitter Miguel Cabrera has been in the Major Leagues since 2003 and with Detroit since 2008. He was a two-time AL Most Valuable Player Award winner for the Tigers and a seven-time AL All-Star for Detroit. Cabrera is a link back to happier times when the Tigers won four consecutive AL Central Division titles from 2011 through 2014. Cabrera hit .282 with 21 doubles, 12 home runs, 41 runs, and 59 runs batted in last year.
2020 Detroit Tigers Total Wins MLB Betting Odds Pick
Detroit is so outmanned that it boggles the mind. The Tigers are light years away from being competitive. Under the total and more misery is the call.
MLB Betting Odds Prediction: Detroit Tigers under 56.5 wins
