The Milwaukee Brewers franchise is one that has not been synonymous with consistent success since its founding in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots. In fact, the Pilots flopped so badly that they bolted for Milwaukee during spring training of 1970. While there have been spurts of success here and there its been more losing than winning. And just once in their history have the Brewers hoisted the pennant, which they did in 1982 when playing in the American League. Since 1998 they have operated in the National League. And to their credit they have made the playoffs in the past two seasons and four times since 2008. But the Brew Crew faces the same challenges as all small market teams which means having to tear down and rebuild after making their occasional post season runs.

2020 Milwaukee Brewers Win Total Odds at Bookmaker.eu: 83.5, over -110, under -120
Last year was a wild card campaign for the Brewers. In fact, they lost at the eventual World Series champion Washington Nationals in the National League wild card game. In 2018 the Crew made it all the way to the National League Championship Series where they lost in seven games to the Los Angeles Dodgers. This year Milwaukee will compete in a questionable National League Central division. While the defending division champion St. Louis Cardinals should be tough the Chicago Cubs have lost star manager Joe Maddon, the Pittsburgh Pirates have torn down, and the Cincinnati Reds are a perennial loser that some gamblers are reaching on in a classic case of betting the come on an unproven winner.
On the Hill
Milwaukee finished 16th for staff earned run average, 29th for quality starts and 16th for staff earned run average in 2019. Pitching remains the biggest concern for the Crew heading into the 2020 season.
Projected number one starter Brandon Woodruff was an NL All-Star last year and proved quite dependable in his first year starting. Woodruff was 11-3 with a 3.62 earned run average and WHIP of 1.14.
Adrian Houser is the projected number to starter and had respectable numbers for 2019 that included a 6-7 record and 3.72 earned run average with a WHIP of 1.24. It was also Houser’s first year as a starter.
And Brett Anderson should anchor the third slot in good form after arriving from Oakland where he was 13-9 with a 3.89 earned run average last year.
Closer Josh Hader was 3-5 with 37 saves and a 2.62 earned run average last season. He struck out 138 batters in 75.2 innings of work. He has been an NL All-Star the past two seasons as well as the Trevor Hoffman NL Reliever of the Year.
At the Plate
Milwaukee ranked a somewhat disappointing 18th for runs scored along with 12th for OPS and seventh for home runs in 2019.
Of course, when it comes to the Brewers, the marquee man is left fielder Christian Yelich, who was 2018 National League Most Valuable Player. Yelich just signed an extension for a whopping $215 million.
Last year Yelich missed 32 games and that likely cost the Crew a second consecutive division title. But he still managed to hit a career high 44 home runs on the season with a career best .329 average and 1.100 OPS.
2020 Milwaukee Brewers Win Total MLB Betting Odds Pick
This could be a sleeper value of a team for 2020. If Yelich stays healthy the Brewers lineup will be protected enough to improve run production and the pitching stands to improve as well. In a National League Central with no dominant teams the Brewers can stay in the hunt and soar over the win total.
MLB Betting Odds Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers over 83.5 wins
