The New York Mets are hanging around the top of the NL East without much help from their heralded pair of hurlers, who were supposed to lead the Metropolitans to any success the team enjoyed. So, I guess that’s a good thing, at least for New Yorkers. One of those pitchers will attempt to get dialed in on Saturday when Noah Syndergaard toes the rubber against the Milwaukee Brewers.
And speaking of pitching, the Brewers lost a few arms prior to the season and the thinned out ranks are keeping them from anything more than a .500 record with the staff boasting one of the highest team ERAs in MLB. The Crew recently dipped into the free agent market adding Gio Gonzalez to give them another arm.
This MLB game between the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets will be held at Citi Field in Flushing, New York, at 7:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 27, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on FS1.

Odds Analysis
For a while there it looked like the Brewers couldn’t lose. Now they can’t win. They enter this series after getting swept in a three-game set by AL Central rival St. Louis, dropping four in a row and seven of their last eight games. It’s been so bad even Christian Yelich is hitless in nine at-bats over the last four games.
The spring has been a struggle. But if the Mets can get their aces on track it could be a fun summer in New York. Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom have combined to go 3-4 with an ERA of nearly 5.00 with 51 hits and eight homers allowed in 51 innings pitched. Yet they’re still above .500 heading into this weekend series.
Probable Pitchers
One thing we can be sure of is that Brandon Woodruff (2-1, 5.81 ERA) isn’t going the distance. The Brewers would be lucky to get six innings out of him since that’s the longest he’s gone in any of his five starts. Early exits have put a strain on the bullpen with relievers logging the fourth-most innings in MLB.
Woodruff was hammered by the Dodgers in his last outing, surrendering two homers among seven hits with five earned in 5.2 innings. He did fan six and has 32 strikeouts in 26.1 innings pitched so far.
The Mets are hopeful Syndergaard (1-2, 5.90 ERA) can find his groove. Thor hasn’t had an ERA over 5.00 this late in a season since his rookie campaign and his performance has been a mystery. His velocity remains high and his stuff electric with 34 strikeouts in 29.1 innings, but his OBA is nearly .270 with a 1.28 WHIP.
Syndergaard has given up at least two earned runs in each of his five starts and New York’s offense has prevented more Ls on his ledger. In his two no-decisions the Mets combined to score 18 runs and won both.
Player to Watch
Following up his MVP season with a strong start, Yelich is carrying the Brewers’ offense through the first month of the season. Even the best hitters go through slumps, and Yelich is experiencing one heading into this series. But that makes it even more likely that he breaks out of it. And it’s hard to keep the good ones silent for long.
Yelich leads the Majors with 13 home runs and 31 RBIs entering the weekend series. And despite a slump that’s seen him go hitless in nine ABs, he’s still swinging it at a .326 clip with a 1.231 OPS.

The weakened pitching staff finally caught up with the Brewers, who own one of the highest staff ERA’s in baseball. Scoring hasn’t been a problem, but they’ll have to figure out Syndergaard in order to get a victory and it’s hard to imagine Thor having another dreadful outing. Baby steps for the Mets righty, though. He may not throw a shutout, but he’s good enough to silence Milwaukee’s bats. That will allow his mates to do damage against Woodruff and the rest of the Brewers pen.
MLB Pick: New York Mets 6, Milwaukee Brewers 3
