MLB Friday, April 7 Parlay Picks

There aren’t many aces taking the mound on Friday because of where we are in the schedule. However, there is still some value to be found in the road teams on Good Friday. Veterans like Lucas Giolito and Clayton Kershaw are going to be in action as well as young, talented arms like Logan Gilbert and MacKenzie Gore. That’s something to keep in mind when looking at MLB betting lines for this weekend’s games.

Baseball Betting Bonus

I’m tempted to role with the veteran duo of Giolito and Kershaw, but there is likely to be more value on the younger starters because they are relatively unproven and don’t have the reputation that proceeds them.

Logan Gilbert lost his first start of the year, but he was feeling tricked on April Fool’s Day. Gilbert allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six innings against the Cleveland Guardians. He gave up a solo home run to Josh Naylor in the fourth inning, and that turned out to be the only run that Cleveland needed in a 2-0 victory. Gilbert continues to prove he is one of the best young arms in baseball though, and he is looking to build on a 2022 campaign where he posted a 1.18 WHIP and a 3.20 ERA.

Aaron Civale bested him on Saturday as Civale pitched seven innings of shutout baseball and allowed just two hits and a walk. However, Civale only struck out three batters, and that’s a little discouraging after he struggled last season and posted a negative WAR. Seattle should have much more success against him in the rematch although this game is in Cleveland.

The other road team to back is the Washington Nationals. Washington blew a game it should have won against Tampa on Tuesday night, as the Nationals lost despite having 16 hits and a lead entering the ninth inning. While that was a setback, it showed that the Nats could provide run support, and Washington could light up Jose Urena in Denver on Friday night.

Urena was rocked by the San Diego Padres in his first start last Saturday. He surrendered nine base runners in 2.1 innings as the Padres chased him out of the game after tagging him for four runs. The journeyman pitcher has finished with an ERA of 5.00 or more for each of the last four seasons despite being on four separate teams, and Urena finished last year with a 2.5 record and a 6.30 ERA at Coors Field.

MacKenzie Gore was once one of the top prospects in San Diego’s farm system, but he was packaged alongside C.J. Abrams and others in a deal that brought Juan Soto to the Padres. Gore was sharp in his Nats’ debut on Sunday, but he did have some command issues and allowed four walks. Despite some of the hiccups, he has much better stuff than Urena, and he should put Washington in position to get a road win.
