All but two teams are in action on Friday, July 19 as the MLB season resumes following a break for the All-Star Game. While the time off surely benefitted players that didn’t make the festivities in Texas, hopefully it helped me out after slumping on my MLB parlays. I did hit three of five individual bets last week, but unfortunately one loss was on my three-team card and the other was part of the same game parlay so I came away empty-handed once again. Reenergized after the break I’m hoping to go on a run and the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to do the same. With injuries mounting LA dropped five of six games before the break and return home to open a series with Boston. The Pittsburgh Pirates are the hottest team coming out of the break having won four straight and six of their last seven to reach .500 for the season. The Pirates host league-leading Philadelphia in the first of a three-game set.

It’s more difficult to handicap these games coming out of the All-Star break and not having a list of probable pitchers. I will do my best, though. One thing we can be certain of is that the Mariners will have a tough time scoring runs. Their .219 team batting average is the worst in baseball and they average fewer than four runs a game. That’s led to them cashing the UNDER in 55.4 percent of their first half contests. The M’s also played below the total in six of their previous seven meetings with the Astros and it’s hard to imagine that changing when the clubs hookup on Friday.
I’ve bet against the White Sox a number of times and they bit me in the backside far too often. So, why am I doing it again? That’s a great question. Welp, they are the worst team in MLB at 27-71 and they are only 10-27 on the road making the homestanding Royals a good pick against the spread. KC is 31-18 at home and the second-most profitable home team. The Royals also covered the spread in two of three earlier meetings in Chicago.
The good news for Philly coming out of the break is that they don’t have to face Pittsburgh’s phenom Paul Skenes on Friday. The Pirates had a strong close to the first half winning four in a row, three over the White Sox and another where Skenes tossed seven hitless frames. Facing MLB’s best will be a different tune for the Buccos.

I thought we’d see a little more offense from the Dodgers and Phillies in their matchup last week. I correctly backed Philly on the moneyline in a 4-3 win over LA but the bats failed to come alive and my OVER pick was a loser. The most success I’ve had on my MLB parlays has been in this section and I’m going to pick that up with the NL contest between wild card contenders Chicago and Arizona. The Cubs started to put things together before the break winning eight of 11 games with their offense snapping out of a prolonged slump. They scored at least five runs in seven of those games while holding opponents to two runs or less seven times with three shutouts. The return of David Bote seemed to jolt the offensive attack. Since being called up from Triple-A he’s batting .353 and playing solid defense. In the friendly confines I have to back the Cubs and the UNDER for my winning same game MLB parlay.
