The 2023 Major League Baseball season is underway, as the season started on Thursday with a full slate of games. In a somewhat unusual move, MLB scheduled only five games for Friday, March 31. That won’t be the case throughout the season, as Fridays will always have a full slate of games. Since there are just five games on Friday, we will limit the parlays to just one three-team parlay focused on sides and one totals parlay with two totals. Let’s look at Friday, March 31 MLB parlays.

Houston Astros
I was on the Astros in their opener on Thursday and I am coming right back and taking them again on Friday. One of the most underrated pitchers for Houston is Christian Javier. Many people think that the Astros will miss Verlander, but Javier is actually better. He was 11-9 last season which is not great in terms of record, but his ERA was just 2.54. He pitched 148.2 innings and gave up only 89 hits. Those are simply outstanding numbers. Lynn is a decent pitcher for the White Sox, but he isn’t anything great and he normally gives up at least a hit per inning and allows an average of about four runs per game. I think there is value on Houston, so I will take the Astros as the first team in this parlay.
San Diego Padres
It is going to be another long season for the Rockies. They are counting on Kyle Freeland as their number two starter. Good luck with that. Freeland was 9-11 last season with a 4.53 ERA. He pitched 174.2 innings and allowed 193 hits. I can’t see him having much success on Friday against a very potent San Diego lineup. I don’t know what to think of Nick Martinez in the starting rotation for the Padres. He was actually much better as a reliever than a starter last season but this play is simply one in which we are going against Freeland. I’ll take the Padres as the second team in the parlay.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The pitching matchup for Friday has Merrill Kelly going for the Diamondbacks, while Dustin May gets the start for the Dodgers. It has been ugly for Arizona when Kelly has been on the mound against the Dodgers. Do you know the last time that Kelly got a win against Los Angeles? It was August of 2019. The Diamondbacks have lost the last 10 games in which Kelly started against L.A. With numbers like that it doesn’t really matter who the Dodgers are throwing. I’ll take Los Angeles as the last team in the parlay.

Rockies-Padres Over 9 (-108), Indians-Mariners Over 7.5 (-120)

Rockies-Padres Over 9 (-108)
I took Colorado and San Diego over the total on Thursday and I am doing so again on Friday. I already noted that Freeland is not a good starting pitcher and Martinez hasn’t been anything special as a starter for the Padres. The Padres have an excellent starting lineup that figures to score a lot of runs this season and they should have a field day against Freeland on Friday. I also think the Rockies will get a few off Martinez. I’ll go over the total with Colorado and San Diego as the first total in the two-team parlay.
Indians-Mariners Over 7.5 (-120)
The Indians are starting Hunter Gaddis on Friday in place of the injured Tristan McKenzie. It is a huge step down, as Gaddis did well just to make the team. It is hard to see Gaddis having much success in this game against a decent Seattle lineup and he doesn’t figure to pitch long. Ray was a disappointment last season for Seattle, as he was basically a .500 pitcher with an ERA nearly four. He goes three or four innings and then runs into trouble and gives up three or four runs. I’ll go over the total with Cleveland and Seattle as the other total in the parlay.
