As is typically the case on a Saturday during baseball season every MLB team will be on the field on April 20 giving bettors a chance to pick and choose options for a MLB parlay. Last Saturday’s MLB parlay was undone by the team I least expected to lose. It just shows us how volatile and unpredictable betting on baseball is. I backed the Braves on the run line against the Marlins, who were just 2-12 entering that contest. Miami pulled off the 5-1 upset. It’s no consolation but I did hit two winning picks backing the UNDER in Washington’s 3-1 over Oakland and taking the Astros straight up in their 9-2 win against Texas.
I haven’t given up on the Braves, who just completed a three-game sweep of the Astros and host another AL West club in Texas. The defending champs have struggled out of the gate and were on the verge of falling below .500 before rallying to beat Detroit on Wednesday. The Braves boast one of MLB’s best offenses which should do enough to make them a winner.
Okay, so I may have been wrong about Oakland having the worst team in baseball. Through the first several weeks of the season that distinction belongs to the White Sox, who broke a six-game losing streak beating Kansas City in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Still, it’s been a struggle and facing a hot Phillies team on the road isn’t ideal. With ace Zach Wheeler expected to be on the bump I’m leaning toward the Phils on the run line.
The Giants have spent a lot of time on the road in the first few weeks of the season and will enjoy some home cooking against Arizona. It won’t be enough to satisfy an offense that ranks in the bottom third in scoring. And the UNDER has been a popular outcome in SF’s first six home games cashing in five of them. I’ll back the UNDER in this NL West meeting.

We expected the Orioles to be in contention this season having steadily built a formidable club and winning an AL best 101 games in 2023. The Royals, not so much. After losing 106 games a season ago, KC won 12 of its first 19 games boasting MLB’s best run differential. Half of those wins were over the troubled White Sox and the Royals dropped two of three when they played in Baltimore during the first week of the season. The O’s are expected have ace Corbin Burnes on the bump with the club undefeated in his starts, including a late-innings rally to take out the Royals on Apr. 3. KC has received solid pitching and Burnes is flashing the form that won him a pitcher’s top honor a few years ago putting runs at a premium.
