As the season moves along the games become more important with so many teams in both leagues still in playoff contention. And there are some good matchups on the MLB slate for Saturday, August 10 to use in building a winning MLB parlay. The Phillies have stumbled since the All-Star break losing 11 of their first 14 games to relinquish their spot on top of MLB’s overall standings. They’re on the road to face the scorching Diamondbacks in one of a number of games between playoff contenders. A big payout was there for the taking last week and I fell short by one run. Sometimes the line between winning and losing a MLB parlay is razor thin. There was little value backing the Padres on the moneyline against Colorado so to move odds in my favor I bet the runline. San Diego won the game but failed to cover. The Twins covered in their 6-2 win over the White Sox and the Yankees and Blue Jays went OVER the total giving me two winners, but one run stings. Oh well, that’s why it’s called gambling and not winning.
Boston is making things interesting in the AL East turning that into a three-team race, but they’ve overachieved and have a losing record at home. After a brilliant stretch that briefly got them to the top of the AL West, the Astros have leveled off. But that run was indicative of what they’re capable of and a slumping offense can break out at Fenway. It’s hard to believe Boston is below .500 at home. The Astros have played well in Boston giving me confidence to back them on the moneyline.
I said this last week when betting against bad teams and it holds true. There’s not much value backing teams to beat MLB’s worst. So, to move the odds in my favor I’m betting the runline in a few games. I know the Padres cost me last week, but they’re playing good baseball and they’ve been money on the road, literally. San Diego is the second-most profitable road team and they are 60-54 against the spread. Backing them to beat Miami is a go. And I’m doing the same with the Cubs in their game with the cross town rival White Sox. I may have thought differently if the Sox hadn’t snapped their 21-game losing streak, but they did and a new slide is out there.

I won’t talk about last week’s same game parlay so I’m moving on. If you want to know what happened read the article. The Dodgers are starting to get some bodies back and that’s trouble for the rest of the NL. Freddie Freeman rejoined them after more than week away on a personal matter. Mookie Betts returned to the lineup and the pitching staff is getting healthier. They have a big chore ahead of them with the Pirates expected to start phenom Paul Skenes. It doesn’t matter, though, since you can’t win if you don’t score, and the Buccos have been struggling to score averaging less than 4.2 runs. The Dodgers boast a top 5 bullpen and should be able to limit the damage while the offense does just enough to beat Skenes and the Pirates.
