Things are heating up in the dog days of summer with division and playoff races tightening. There’s still a month and half left in the 2024 MLB season, but games won and lost now will have a direct effect on which teams qualify for the postseason. A number of games between playoff hopefuls dot the schedule for Saturday, August 17 which makes building a winning MLB parlay a worthwhile endeavor. The most anticipated matchup is an interleague tilt between division leaders. A recent 7-game slide moved the Cleveland Guardians back to the pack in the AL Central, but they responded by winning their next three. They visit the NL Central leading Brewers, who as of Wednesday have the biggest lead of any first place team in baseball.

Losing a MLB parlay is tough, but when it happens they way it did last week, it’s tougher. And it turned out the same way the last two weeks so triple the amount of frustration. Backing San Diego on the runline is not my favorite wager right now. Two weeks ago they burned me by not covering against Colorado. Silly me, I bet them to cover last Saturday’s game at Florida and they failed in their 9-8 victory. So once again I was that close to a nice three-team MLB parlay win.
It’s time to get over that hump and I plan on doing that by backing the UNDER in Seattle’s game at Pittsburgh. The teams have cashed the UNDER in more than 51 percent of their game’s with Seattle having the third best UNDER percentage. That means offense is a problem and the M’s are the worst hitting team in MLB with a .218 batting average. By comparison the Pirates look like Tony Gwynn with their .235 average. A good pitching matchup is expected with Luis Castillo facing Bailey Falter.
The Mets blew their wad with an incredible run that got them into the wild card race and second place in the NL East. But alas they couldn’t sustain it and scored just one run in a three-game sweep by Seattle. And projected starter Luis Severino has allowed five home runs and 14 earned runs over 13 innings in his last three starts. The Marlins aren’t good but they play hard and they split 10 games with the Mets this season.
Even a 12-2 win over the Yankees isn’t going to sway my opinion of the White Sox. The worst team in baseball gets lucky now and then and with that out of the way I expect they’ll return to their losing ways against an Astros club battling for first place in the AL West. This is a game Houston needs to win and they will, by more than enough runs to cover the spread.

Thanks to the Dodgers my three-team MLB parlay loss hurt less. Backing LA on the moneyline and the UNDER proved fruitful in their 4-1 victory and same game MLB parlay win. I even went against phenom Paul Skenes making it that much sweeter. There is little time to bask in the glory of a win, though, so I’ll move on. I knew Philadelphia wouldn’t play as well as they did in the first half for an entire season. I also didn’t expect them to crash as hard as they have. Good teams have snapped out of a funk in a hurry and the Phils will do the same. I’m hoping it happens Saturday against Washington. The Nats have floundered after being in the wild card picture for a while making them the perfect patsy. Philly won five of the six previous meetings outscoring the Nats 30-15 making them a runline pick with the OVER.
