Major League Baseball says adios to August with a number of compelling matchups on the schedule for Saturday, August 31. The number of chances to win a MLB parlay becomes shorter by the day as the league readies to enter the final month of the season. And with several teams still in the playoff race the action on the diamond is heated. Two critical division series take place in the NL with the East leading Phillies hosting Atlanta and the West leading Dodgers visiting Arizona. In order to win the division the Braves likely need a sweep as they enter the series five games off the pace. The Dbacks head into their series only three games out of first place. A crucial series in the AL has Kansas City visiting Houston. The Royals are nipping at the heels of Cleveland in the Central while the Astros try to stave off Seattle in the West.

My Saturday MLB parlay from two weeks ago had a few holes and ended up being a non-winner. It’s happened too many times this season that I’m trying to soften the blow of actually calling it a loser. But I digress and move forward. I have had success on my parlays backing any team that plays the White Sucks. They are on pace to set a MLB record for losses in a 162-game season and they added to that with a 6-1 setback at Houston. My other two picks didn’t work out, though.
I’ll go back to using the White Sox as part of my three-team parlay. When betting against them there is no value on the moneyline since they are historically bad. So once again I’ll back Chicago’s opponent on the runline. And this time it’s the Mets, who are still in the middle of the wild card race and in desperate need of wins to stay there. Everybody has beaten Chicago this season and the Mets will join the party.
Cleveland coughed up its lead in the AL Central by losing three straight to KC. The Guardians regrouped by winning the finale of that four-game set to retake the lead and face a Pirates team that got just got abused by the Cubs allowing 41 runs in three losses. Cleveland has been good at home and backing them against a battered Pittsburgh staff is a smart play.
The Braves have stayed in the NL East race even though they’ve suffered through tremendous losses. This is a chance for them to gain some ground but it’s also a chance for Philly to end any hope of being overtaken. The Phils had a four-game win streak end with a 10-0 loss to Houston, but they’ve been playing good baseball looking more like the team that posted the best record in MLB during the first half of the season.

Dodgers / Diamondbacks OVER
I split my two same game parlay picks in the matchup between Philadelphia and Washington two weeks ago. The Phils covered the spread in their 5-1 win but played below the total. I’m going with another divisional matchup backing the Dodgers and the OVER in their showdown with Arizona. The Dbacks have been on fire since the All-Star break putting pressure on LA in the NL West. The Dodgers spent time juggling their roster and pitching staff yet they’ve maintained the advantage and they’re getting bodies back. I don’t see Arizona continuing to win 75 percent of its and the Dodgers would like nothing more than to end any hopes the Dbacks have of overtaking them in the standings. The teams have also played OVER the total in six of their previous nine encounters
