The final Saturday in July brings something we haven’t seen in MLB in decades; a traditional doubleheader. That’s right, buy one ticket to the Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants and see two games. Oh, there’ve been plenty of doubleheaders over the years but few scheduled and most of the day-night variety. That is one of the five divisional matchups on tap for July 27 with the Yankees-Red Sox game on FOX probably the biggest. Boston made a move up the AL East standings but lost their first four out of the break. They ended the skid with a shutout of Colorado and the Sox have a winning record against their division taking four of the first six meetings with the Yanks. We also have an interleague matchup between division leaders when the AL Central Guardians visit the NL East Phillies. Despite their slow start to the second half Cleveland is still the most profitable team in MLB while the Phils are fifth.

It was another close-but-no-cigar last week for me when I hit two picks on my three-team MLB parlay. Both Oakland and Atlanta won but the game between the Reds and Nationals went OVER the total, and of course I backed the UNDER. While it seems like I’m getting closer on my three-team parlays it’s still been too long since I hit a winner. I think it’s time to change that.
The team formerly known as the Indians struggled out of the break losing three of their first four to lose their grip on the best record in the AL. The bats were silent as they scored just one run and had three hits in consecutive losses to San Diego. Cleveland won the opener, 7-0, scoring six times in the eighth inning. The Phils had issues as well, but they continue to have the best record in MLB and they are the best home team winning nearly 70 percent of the time.
A lot of names have changed but the Dodgers still remember the 2017 World Series sign-stealing saga. The Astros went on to win the championship and a few years later the scandal became public. Who know if the Dodgers would’ve won the Series, but they weren’t give a fair chance. So, backing LA when facing the Astros is the right thing to do since the baseball Gods will make things right. That and LA is pretty damn good.
I’ve done this on several occasions this year and more times than not it’s paid off. Backing the UNDER in a Mariners game is a winning bet almost 57 percent of the time and the M’s have seemingly gotten worse on offense after the break. They lost four of their five games scoring 10 runs total. However six of those runs came in one game. I’m backing the UNDER once again.

The Red Sox end up on my same game parlay for the second straight week after I had them losing to the Dodgers last Saturday, which they did, and backing the UNDER, which they didn’t. Runs haven’t been the issue for Boston post break as they scored at least six times in the last two games against LA and the first two in Colorado. Over the first four games they allowed 29 runs, which was a problem. Hell, even Kutter Crawford wasn’t immune giving up five homers in a loss to the Dodgers. Crawford tossed seven shutout frames in his most recent start against the Yankees and is 2-0 this season. He will help the Sox get a win but offense will be on display.
