With the first day of summer in the books we can let the dog days begin. The increased number of playoff teams means fewer clubs will be experiencing those long summer nights, though, and we’re just approaching the halfway point so it’s still a little early. A number of quality matchups highlight the schedule for Saturday, June 22 and I better start cashing in on my MLB parlays or some folks might start to wonder if I know what I’m talking about. The drought continued last week with losers on my three-teamer and same game parlays. Though the New York Yankees lost to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, their fourth setback in six games, they still have MLB’s best record and are the most profitable team up over $1600 for the season. The Yanks host Atlanta in primetime in a regional FOX telecast.

Too good of a team to be slumping for as long as they have, the Cubs have a chance to get back in the NL Central race hosting the Mets. Part of the reason why the Cubbies lost eight of 11 games was due to a lack of offense. Well, they had a big series against the Giants taking two of three by scoring 17 runs and banging out 32 hits. The Cubs have one of the worst averages in MLB hitting only .230 as a team but they are collectively better than that. And the Mets haven’t exactly been the best at run prevention, which is why I’m backing the home team.
Coming off a huge series against the Yankees the Orioles travel to Houston where they’re expected to send ace Corbin Burnes to the bump. Acquiring the former Cy Young winner has helped in a number of ways with him anchoring a staff beset by injuries. And he truly has been an ace sporting an 8-2 record while the O’s have won 11 of his 15 starts. The Astros have struggled at home playing just .500 ball giving me the confidence to back Baltimore against the spread.
The Padres have endured three 5-game losing streaks this season and each time they’ve responded with multiple victories. They stopped their most recent slide beating Philadelphia on Wednesday and return home to host Milwaukee. If past results hold true the Friars are on the verge of a winning streak and it doesn’t who their opponent is, though they beat the Brewers twice earlier this season in Wisconsin.

Heck the White Sox should pay me to bet against them because every time I do it seems like they win. And that’s saying something since they have the worst record in the majors falling to 20-55 after Wednesday’s 4-1 loss. Prior to last Saturday’s game against Arizona the Sox scored a total of eight runs in four games losing three of them. So of course they hit four homers in a 9-2 win over the Dbacks sending me to a loss on the moneyline and on the total. The only MLB teams Shohei Ohtani has played for hook up in the Freeway Series in LA. The Angels have played a little bit better going 8-5 in a 13-game stretch before losing two straight to Milwaukee. Pitching has been a sore spot and that’s not a problem you want to have when facing the Dodgers, who rank among the top three in runs per game, batting average, OPS and home runs. And they’ll be without Mookie Betts for several weeks after he got clipped in the hand. Still, they have enough to subdue their SoCal neighbor.
