There are some enticing matchups on tap in Major League Baseball over the weekend giving bettors something to look forward to. Perhaps the biggest takes place out west when the MLB futures odds favorites Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers clash. When you win 20 of your fist 33 games and the season hasn’t met expectations, you know the bar is high. And that’s been the case in LA for several years. The teams have assembled some of the top talent in the game and are expected to be in the middle of things come October. The Dodgers enter the series having won eight of their last 10 games following a stretch that saw them lose seven of nine games. The Braves opened their six-game West Coast road trip dropping two of three in Seattle but they are still 12-4 in their past 16 games.

As we know coming close on a MLB parlay doesn’t count. For the second straight Saturday I was this close to winning another three-teamer only to be undone by the worst team in baseball. I backed Tampa Bay on the run line in its game against the White Sox. Not only did Chicago win in extra innings, the Sox swept the series doubling their win total for the season. I didn’t expect the Cubs to get shutout when I backed the OVER in their game with Boston. They did, but allowing 17 runs made my pick a winner. I also correctly backed the UNDER in the Dodgers-Blue Jays tilt.
The White Sox hung me out to dry last week but that won’t prevent me from betting against them again. The Sox are the worst road team in MLB with just one victory ahead of their series in St. Louis. And the Cardinals are playing better. They had won four of five before dropping the last two against Detroit. Former Sox hurler Lance Lynn has allowed one earned run or less in three of his last four starts and should do well against the light-hitting Sox lineup.
The Royals are a fun team to watch and they’ve had success this season with a MLB best plus-50 run differential. A lot of that damage has come at home where they are 12-5 having scored at least seven runs seven times. The defending champs are still searching for consistency and until the Rangers find it I’ll back the home team straight up.
The Braves and Dodgers are loaded with offensive threats, but what’s made them so good over the last few seasons is pitching. They rank among the top 10 in staff ERA and probable starter Tyler Glasnow is an early NL Cy Young candidate having allowed two earned runs or less in five of his seven starts. I expect a close, well-pitched game leading to the UNDER being a winner.

I’ll go for a third straight same game parlay win after hitting Seattle on the moneyline and the UNDER in the M’s 3-1 win over Arizona last week. I like the Orioles and their young talent. They lead the majors in home runs and rank among the top 5 in scoring while boasting a staff that twirls to a 3.62 ERA. Put that group in a hitters park and they could go off against a suspect Reds staff. The key is getting past the talented starters into a Cincy bullpen that gives up a lot of hits and boasts an ERA over 4.00.
