A few weeks into the 2024 MLB season and we’re starting to get a clearer picture of what’s ahead. Now, that’s a relative term since were only less than 10 percent into the campaign and teams like the Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks will most likely be over .500 rather than at or below that level, like they are entering the week. And it turns out all three of those clubs are hosting games on Wednesday, April 17 and could be used to build a winning MLB parlay. I have yet to replicate my winning three-team and same game parlay from opening day and I came close on my Sunday picks. However, as you know by now one losing pick on a parlay makes them all losers. With that said I’ll forge ahead into a new week with another opportunity to collect a winning ticket.

The Astros busted out offensively in their weekend series against Texas scoring at least eight runs in each of the three games. Though a little absurd it’s more like what was expected from them than what we saw in the first 15 games. Houston ended the week ranked among the top 5 in batting average, OPS and home runs yet were 16th in scoring. The numbers were better aligned against the Rangers and should continue to even out. The Braves have produced offensively as well and have yet to get solid contributions from Ronald Acuna Jr. Struggling starters in Max Fried and J.P. France give me the confidence to back the OVER.
I’m not sure Kansas City is as good as their record indicates, but they are better than the White Sox, who closed the week with three straight losses and the worst record in MLB. The AL Central rivals played four games last week in KC with the Royals earning a sweep by outscoring Chicago 20-5. There is no relief in sight for the Sox, which is why I’m backing the visitors on the moneyline since the Royals are on the road.
Lastly on my winning three-team is parlay is the Dodgers covering the run line in their matchup with Washington. This game caps a nine-game road trip for the Nats and it’s easy to breathe a sigh of relief with the end in sight. And it’s not an easy task slowing down LA’s bats. The Dodgers lead MLB in homers and scored at least five runs in 13 of their first 17 games winning nine of them. I’m counting on the Nats looking forward to getting home allowing LA to cover the run line.

One thing I discovered early in the season is that Oakland isn’t very good. The Athletics have more wins than I thought they would at this point and are ahead of the Astros in the AL West standings, but they’ve struggled mightily on offense ranked among the lowest in run production, Sunday’s game against Washington aside. The A’s are more likely to score a few runs rather than bust out like they did against the Nats. And St. Louis’ expected starter Steven Matz has been solid boasting an ERA under 2.00. The Cards can also break out offensively, though seven of their last 10 games cashed the UNDER.
