With plenty of teams still in contention for a playoff berth there are a number of games on the MLB slate for Wednesday, August 7 that can affect the standings. Since the All-Star break San Diego has been on fire winning 11 of 14 games completing a 2-game sweep of the Dodgers last week to close within 4.5 games of first in the NL West. They’ve been a great MLB parlay pick over the last two weeks moving into a virtual tie with Atlanta for the top wild card. They visit the Pirates, who are 3.5 games out of the third spot. Despite losing the last two games of a weekend set to Baltimore, the Guardians boast the best record in the majors and they are the most profitable team. The best home team in MLB hosts Arizona in an interleague matchup. And the Dodgers are seeking to avenge a sweep in Philadelphia a few weeks ago by hosting the Phils in a matchup of the top two teams in the NL.

I broke out of my slump in a big way last week hitting my first three-team MLB parlay in some time and capping it off with a same-game parlay winner. That almost makes up for the weeks of losing, but not quite so I have to rip off a few other winners. I backed OVER 9.5 in the Yankees 6-5 win over Philadelphia and had the Royals against the spread in their 10-3 win over the White Sox. The winner came home in Houston’s 5-4 win over Pittsburgh. The euphoria subsides quickly since I have to get back at it with a new week of games.
Cleveland doesn’t lose a lot and the setbacks are less frequent at home, which is where they’ll be against Arizona. The Dbacks dug themselves out of a big hole and are in the thick of the NL wild card race, but they have a losing road record and haven’t done well in interleague matchups. That’s enough for me to back the team formerly known as the Indians straight up.
I’ve bet against the White Sox enough times this season and the odds are moving in their favor that they win a game soon. Their losing streak reached 20 games and I have a feeling they’ll be more competitive against a team that’s also not very good. The A’s have the second-worst record in the AL and the Sox can’t continue to lose, can they?
The Cardinals cashed the OVER in eight of nine games before Sunday’s tilt with the Cubs. They played more like the team that’s scuffled offensively managing just four hits in a 6-2 loss. Tampa has continued to play competitive ball even after dealing away a number of players. Their pitching has been strong allowing a total of 17 runs in a nine-game stretch where the Rays went 6-3. I have to back the UNDER in this matchup.

I capped my perfect MLB parlay day backing the Orioles on the run line and OVER 9.5 in their 10-4 win over Toronto. I have had more success this season going this route and will attempt to continue the run in the game between the Phillies and Dodgers. LA made some moves and they are getting players back making them a good bet. With the Phillies struggling and the Dodgers looking for payback from a three-game sweep in Philly a few weeks ago, I’ll back the home team. And the Dodgers have been significantly better in their own yard.
