Betting on MLB can be challenging given the number of games played and how players perform. It’s hard to be at your best over a 162-game season that lasts six months. And just like the performers on the field, those who wager on the games will experience the ebbs and flows. The Philadelphia Phillies have been a hot topic for a few weeks and deservedly so. A loss to Pittsburgh on April 14 left the Phils at 8-8. However, since then they’ve won 25 of 31 games finishing off a three-game sweep of the Nationals on Sunday with an 11-5 victory, and boast the best record in the majors. The Phils host the World Series champion Texas Rangers in one of 15 games on the slate for Wednesday, May 22, with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m. ET. The Yankees are another team on a roll capping a perfect week with a 7-2 triumph over the White Sox. New York is the most profitable team in MLB up over $1200 for the season.

I mentioned the challenges faced betting baseball because I’ve experienced them. There have been a few winning MLB parlays and I’ll continue playing as long as I’m rewarded. Unfortunately I wasn’t rewarded last week losing two of my three picks. Baltimore was my only winner and the O’s needed a ninth inning rally to win scoring twice for the walk off. It’s hard to win when you don’t score and my other two clubs were shutout with Detroit falling 2-0 and Oakland losing 3-0.
Houston’s dominance of the AL West the last few seasons is largely because they took care of business against division rivals. And the Astros are heating up ahead of their first series of the season against the Angels. Sunday’s win over Milwaukee was their ninth in 11 games moving the Astros up the standings. They’ve also won seven of the last 10 meetings giving me the confidence to back them on the run line in this matchup.
It’s a quick turnaround for the Red Sox and Rays, who just played a four-game series in Boston last week. Tampa took three of four in that series improving to 8-2 in their previous 10 encounters. The Rays have been exceptionally good in close games winning nine of 13 that were decided by one run.
It’s not unusual to see the Dodgers score a lot of runs since they have one of the toughest lineups in baseball. It’s top heavy though and if opponents can limit the damage done by the top of the order their odds of winning improve and so the odds of the game cashing the UNDER. The Dodgers boast one of the top staffs in baseball and are expected to start James Paxton, who sports a 2.84 ERA in eight starts. That matchup is a reason why I’m backing the UNDER.

I missed my same game parlay last week so it’s time to get back in the win column. The best team in MLB against the defending World Series champions looks like a good contest. Riding a month-long heater the Phils catapulted into first place in the NL East. And it doesn’t look like they’re slowing down. They boast the highest scoring offense, hit nearly .260 as a team and rank among the top seven in home runs. The pitching has been solid as well, but they are tossing what might be the weak link in the rotation in Taijuan Walker, who started Philly’s only setback in their last seven games, 6-5, to the Mets that cashed the OVER. So, I’m counting on runs with the Phillies winning outright.
