As the clock ticks down on the 2024 MLB regular season several teams remain in contention for a playoff spot and winning games now takes on added importance. Entering the week the New York Mets are the hottest team in baseball. They won nine straight games before the streak was halted on Sunday in a 3-1 loss to Cincinnati. They caught Atlanta for the third wild card in the NL while closing the gap on the Padres and Dbacks. The Mets are one of the top investments on the road this season and they hook up the Blue Jays north of the border on Wednesday, Sept. 11. I haven’t backed the Mets much this season but they are worth a look on a MLB parlay. The most profitable team overall are the Brewers, who hold the biggest division lead in baseball despite losing three of their last four games.

The White Sox got me again last Wednesday upsetting Baltimore and handing me a loss on my three-team MLB parlay. That 8-1 victory came out of nowhere since the Sox lost the first two games of the series by a combined score of 22-3. That’s kinda the beauty of sports is that you just never know. That outcome proved to be more painful when Kansas City and the Cubs, my two other MLB parlay picks, both won outright.
I’m backing the Phillies in their home game against Tampa Bay mainly because Zach Wheeler is scheduled to pitch. A Cy Young contender, Wheeler is 14-6 with a 2.59 ERA and the Phils have won his last three starts. Tampa’s offense isn’t going to scare anyone and if Wheeler is dealing he will silence their bats. And the Phils have been potent all season at the dish ranking among the top 5 in MLB in scoring, batting average and OPS.
The AL East is far from being decided with the Orioles finishing off a three-game series in Boston. If not for their success against the Red Sox this season the O’s would be further behind the Yankees. Baltimore won seven of the first 10 meetings between the clubs, including a three-game sweep in Boston in April outscoring the Sox 23-10.
To complete my winning three-team MLB parlay I’m backing Houston to cover the spread against Oakland. All things considered it’s been a good season for the A’s. However, going back to the 2021 season, the Astros have won 17 of 22 games played in Houston, including a four-game sweep earlier this season when they covered the spread three times. And being in the hunt for a division title gives the Astros added incentive to beat a team that’s 20 games under .500.

This is an interesting week for the Braves, who start with a makeup game against Cincinnati on Monday before battling Washington. With little time to think about their playoff position they’ll just play and let the chips fall. That’s probably a good thing since they haven’t had a lot of success against the Nats this season losing seven of the first 11 meetings. However, projected Atlanta starter Max Fried played a prominent role in one of Atlanta’s victories. In his only appearance against the Nats this season Fried tossed eight innings of shutout ball in a 2-0 Braves win in May. And Fried has been stellar all season giving me confidence to back the Braves. The teams have also played below the total in seven of 11 encounters and they’ve struggled scoring recently making the UNDER a smart play on my MLB same game parlay.
