As we enter the first full week of the final month of the MLB regular season plenty still needs to be decided. All three division races in the AL are tight with the Central holding a huge series between first-place Cleveland and second-place Kansas City. The Royals have been good at home and could tighten things with a win on Wednesday, September 4. Just last week the Royals won three of four games in Cleveland and they’ve won seven of the first 10 meetings making them a good play on a MLB parlay. The Orioles have a golden opportunity to pressure the Yankees for the top spot in the East as they host the White Sox, who set a franchise record on Sunday with their 107th loss.

I was unable to keep my mini heater going losing all three games on last week’s three-team MLB parlay. I felt confident with my picks but got bamboozled by Seattle scoring six runs and the Rangers failing to cover the spread in their win over the White Sox. You need a short memory when you win a MLB parlay and a shorter one when you lose. I’ve already forgotten about last week’s results and have moved on.
I lost last week betting against the White Sox, but they’ve been good to me for most of the season. They could be motivated to avoid setting the MLB record for losses in a season but that doesn’t dismiss the fact they are not good. And with the Orioles chasing down first place in the AL East they need this game and they get it by covering the runline.
For whatever reason the Royals have had plenty of success against the team formerly known as the Indians. They won the first three games of a four-game set in Cleveland last week tying for the division lead but gave it away by losing their next five games. KC is 7-3 entering the final series between the clubs and the Royals have the second-most home wins in the AL.
It’s taken most of the season but the Cubs are making a late surge behind an offense that’s been in hibernation most of the year. They capped off a 10-game stretch with their ninth win slamming Washington 14-1 on Sunday. Over that 10-game span the Cubs averaged nearly 10 runs scoring 41 times in a three-game sweep of the Pirates. The Cubs are 6-4 in the first 10 games of the season series and this could be a same game parlay backing the OVER since it’s is 7-2-1 in those games.

At least I successfully backed the UNDER in the Atlanta-Minnesota contest last week sparing me the embarrassment of a complete failure. The other half of the same game parlay didn’t work out, though, with Atlanta getting the road victory. I mentioned the game between the Cubs and Pirates as a potential same-gamer and it is tempting, but instead I’m going with the Phillies in their interleague tilt with Toronto. Following a stretch that saw them lose their grip on the NL’s best record, the Phils put things together winning six of eight games against high-level competition. I’m not thrilled with the potential pitching matchup and both bullpens have endured their share of struggles. At this point I trust Philadelphia’s offense more than the Blue Jays which is why I’m backing the Phils and the OVER on my same game MLB parlay.
