With both teams battling for a playoff spot the Subway Series has added intensity. But the New York Yankees and New York Mets have to emerge from a slump to aid their chances. Just about two weeks ago it looked like the Yankees would never lose another game. A 13-game winning streak got them into a wild card spot and had them thinking of possibly over taking Tampa Bay at the top of the AL East. They lost 10 of their next 12 games and have a slim lead over Toronto for the second AL wild card entering the weekend. The Mets enter the series on a two-game slide falling further off the pace in the NL East. The teams conclude the series on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball with Carlos Carrasco getting the nod for the home team.
First pitch for this interleague contest between the New York Yankees and New York Mets is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from Citi Field in Queens. The matchup will air live on ESPN. Bet on MLB odds and player props at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

Odds Analysis
When you’re projected as a World Series contender, which the Yankees seem to always be, and you struggle to win games the returns aren’t favorable. A loss to the White Sox in the Field of Dreams game last month left the Bombers at 63-52 and on the outside of the playoff picture. They then went on a monumental run winning 13 straight to get back in the hunt. Well, that flame was snuffed out in a hurry. The streak was going to end at some point, but avoiding a long skid was the plan. The Yankees lost the next four and were just swept by the Blue Jays giving them 10 losses in 12 games. They were outscored by the Blue Jays 25-8 and never led in the series. Their winning streak helped bettors’ bottom line but the Yankees are still down $401 on the moneyline and the UNDER is 6-2 in eight games ahead of this series.
The Mets haven’t given up on winning the NL East, but odds of getting there continue to increase. They dropped the last two of a three-game set with Miami falling below .500 and five games behind Atlanta. They are $1452 in the red for the season but they’ve been much better at Citi Field sporting a 40-27 record and up $5 on the moneyline. The Mets took two of three when the teams met in the Bronx earlier this season outscoring the Yankees 20-12.
Probable Pitchers
Undecided: This would have been Jameson Taillon’s spot in the rotation but the Yankees put the righty on the IL with an ankle injury. Just when they start getting some pitchers back another injury comes along. It’s not serious according to Aaron Boone and Taillon could miss just the one start. It does put the club in a bind, though, especially with Gerritt Cole nursing a hamstring injury and Corey Kluber having his innings and pitches restricted. There are options. Andrew Heaney started a number of games before being moved to the pen and Lucas Gil has been effective in his brief four-start season. It also looks like Michael King is set to come off the IL and could be activated this weekend. He last pitched on July 3 ironically against the Mets tossing four shutout innings with nine strikeouts in relief. He’s yet to win a game going 0-4 with a 3.72 ERA over 48.1 innings.
Carlos Carrasco: The Mets are scheduled to start Carrasco in the series finale with the veteran righty aiming to find the form that allowed him to post four straight double digit win seasons with the Indians. He got a late start to the season spending most of the time on the IL before debuting with the team in late July. He struggled when first returning but has pitched better of late going 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA over his last four starts. He has a WHIP of 0.99 in that span with opponents hitting just .218 against him. He’s gone at least five innings in each of those starts issuing only three walks while fanning 20. The Mets won each of his last two starts.
Yankees vs. Mets Prediction
If anything it should be fun with plenty at stake in this interleague rivalry. The Mets have performed much better at home this season and with Carrasco finding his groove I’m leaning toward the home team. And the Yankees bullpen continues to be toxic only adding to the Mets chances.
