Seattle Mariners at Boston Red Sox MLB Betting

A year removed from ending up the best overall wager in the game at online sportsbooks $3670, the Seattle Mariners have struggled to find much traction at the outset of the 2022 MLB betting season. The club did however kick off its extended 10-game road trip with a series win in New York against the Mets who hadn’t dropped a single series to this point of the season. Maybe that gets Scott Servais’s squad getting back to playing at the level MLB bettors got used to last season. The struggles continue however in “Beantown” where the Boston Red Sox currently clock in as the third worst bet in the game. Though it’s early, this could prove to be a do-or-die week for Alex Cora’s squad. It opened the week with three against the Houston Astros, and closes it out with four against the M’s. Upper management could decide to pull the plug with it already 12-games out of first in the AL East entering the week should the team lose a majority of the games. They’ll look the way of Rich Hill in the opener with the hopes that he can lead them to a win against rookie right-hander George Kirby.

First pitch for the non-divisional AL throw down between the Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox is scheduled for Thursday, May 19, 2022. Take it in live on the MLB Network at 7:10 p.m. ET from Fenway Park. Bet on MLB odds and player props at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

Odds Analysis

The Mariners last won a series back on April 24 when it swept the Kansas City Royals out of T-Mobile Park. It lost the next five up until holding on for dear life to take two of three from the NL East leading Mets this past weekend. The pair of wins saw Seattle claw to within three-games of the breakeven point 16-19, and cut a good chunk of their seasonal deficit off -$261. They’ll remain on the road for this one following an intense three-games in Toronto looking to improve upon their 7-12 road record -$299. The Red Sox ended up winning three of five played games last week, but it did very little to move the needle. As it stands, only the Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds have cost baseball bettors more money than that of the Red Sox -$798. Most bothersome about the overall tally is the fact that over $550 of the deficit has been incurred at home where the teams managed just four wins through 13 tries.

Probable Pitchers

George Kirby R: The 24-year old rookie has made two starts for the Mariners since getting called up to the Bigs back in early May. The pair of efforts were eye-opening to say the least with the righty tossing six innings of shutout ball at the Tampa Bay Rays and following it up with four innings of three hit and 1 ER ball at Pete Alonso and Co. He was limited to less than 90 pitches in both outings, yet still managed to accrue an impressive 8:1 K/BB ratio. Boston has had all sorts of issues with RHP for one reason or another with it just 9-17 overall and down nearly 10 units for their supporters in those outings. The youngster just might be able to live with his fastball and changeup in this one as well, but I’d like to see his infamous slider start biting more.

Rich Hill L: Rich Hill is 42 years old and still taking trips to the bump every fifth day. Do you know how that makes this 46-year old arm chair quarterback feel? Anyway, the light at the end of the tunnel of his career is shining bright. He enters his seventh overall start 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA and .229 batting average against, but owns a poor 6.8 K/9 and has walked better than two batters per start. He only just recently pitched through the sixth inning to log his first quality start of the season. You know what that means, right? It means the injury bug is going to come from out of nowhere and take a huge bite out of his season. Hill simply doesn’t stay healthy! He could still shine here versus the M’s who average just 3.7 runs per game against lefties 3-7.

Mariners vs. Red Sox Prediction

A series removed from dealing with the red hot Houston Astros, the Red Sox will be forced to pick themselves off the mat to play four with a Mariners outfit I have rated out much better than its 16-19 overall record suggests. On top of that, it’ll be facing a pitcher whose stuff it’s never seen before. Even so, it’s statistical output has been about average across the board and I’ve got a heavy dose of positive regression bombarding Seattle’s locker room soon. The same can’t be said for the BoSox who’ve struggled from the word go. As such, I’m going to hitch my wagon to the rookie who was born in New York and would love nothing more than to shine in his first career start against Boston. Gimme Seattle on the moneyline for the first five innings and full game!
