Division contenders square off in the finale of an enormous three-game set when the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels close it out from the “Big A” on Hump Day night. If that’s not enough to entice MLB bettors to take the game in live, maybe the starting pitching matchup will do the trick. AL Cy Young Award contenders Shane McClanahan and Shohei Ohtani will be getting the starting nod for their respective clubs. Both hurlers have the fifth (12-1) and fourth (10-1) shortest odds to win the award at online sportsbooks. Should an ump with a favorable strike zone situate himself behind the dish, you can bet your bottom dollar both players’ K props will be bet into heavily with McClanahan and “Shotime” combining for 88 overall strikeouts to this point of the season. Make it a point to hit the over for each early with the juice expected to explode right after each starters respective offerings hit the board.

Odds Analysis
As it stands right now, both the Rays and Halos are in the thick of the playoff chase. The Rays invade Anaheim winners in six of seven after sweeping a road series in Oakland and following it up by taking three of four up in Seattle. Kevin Cash’s troops currently sit two-games in back of the New York Yankees with an 18-11 overall record that’s netted $228 of baseball betting profit for their supporters. Most impressive is a bulk of the tally being tallied on the road where the team stands 9-3 ($470). In coming back to beat the Washington Nationals on Sunday, the Angels are on a roll themselves having won four of five to claw to a half-game lead over the Houston Astros in the AL West. LA’s currently the fourth best bet in the game sitting $522 in the black with 10 of its 19 overall wins coming in the comforts of its own house ($104). Tampa’s dominated the recent rivalry in going 8-2 with the over cashing in seven times.
Probable Pitchers
Shane McClanahan (L): We could seriously be looking at McClanahan’s breakout campaign! The kid showed he had the stuff last year, but management treated him with kid gloves and refused to let him go deep into games. That’s not the case in 2022! After averaging a hair under 5.0 innings per start a season ago, the left-hander is averaging 5.35 innings per start in 2022 and has already gone through seven innings for the first time in his career. That being said, he’s failed to pitch through the sixth inning in his last two starts against Minnesota and Seattle who each touched him up with the long ball. With the Angels launching the second most homers in the league (36), he better bring his “A” game to start No. seven. Regardless, I’m honing in on his K prop with LA striking out against lefties at a 27 percent clip.
Shohei Ohtani (R): What else can one say about the reigning MVP? Ohtani has done nothing but amaze since coming over from Japan in 2018. He’s this generation’s Babe Ruth with his ability to throw some filthy stuff on the bump, and back it up with a bat that’s already accounted for 97 career home runs. Those attacking the MLB odds will be most concerned with his prowess on the hill for this one in an attempt to build off a sterling effort last time out after tossing seven shutout innings at the Red Sox in Boston to go along with 11 K. The outing was his deepest of the season, but he’ll have his hands full with a Tampa Bay offense that’s raked opposing right-handers to the tune of a .699 OPS while averaging 4.7 runs per game (12-9). That being said, the Rays have also struck out 28 percent of the time versus righties, so Ohtani’s K prop will be in play for me as well.
Rays vs. Angels Prediction
This is the early-season pitching matchup everyone will want a piece of. More times than not, these types of scenarios fail to bear fruit in failing to live up to the hype. I don’t foresee that being the case in this one with each hurler looking to put on a show in hopes of bettering their Cy Young hopes. They’ll also be going all-out to secure a huge win for their respective clubs with both likely to be competing for a playoff spot all year long. As such, look for the scoring to be held in check early with each arm dazzling. Hit the first five under as well as the over of both hurlers’ strikeout prop. But do it fast before you get juiced out of the market!
