The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have one of the most storied rivalries in all of sports, and it will be renewed with everything on the line in the American League Division Series. The Yankees and Red Sox are two of the eight teams remaining in the Major League Baseball postseason.
They are two of the best teams but only one will advance to the ALCS following this five-game series. The teams faced off 19 times in the regular season and Boston won 10 of them. The Red Sox have the home field advantage and they were the best team in the majors from start to finish so they should be the favorites.
However, the Yankees have a thunderous lineup and are not your standard wild card team. New York knocked off the Oakland A’s to make it here and hope to extend their season by knocking off the Red Sox in MLB wagering.
The American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will begin on Friday, October 5th, 2018 at 7:32 p.m. ET at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts.

Odds Analysis
The odds have not yet been released on this series because the Yankees just advanced on Wednesday night. However, based on their superior record and the home field advantage, the Red Sox will be the favorite. Boston finished the regular season with a record of 108-54, which was the best mark in the major leagues. The Yankees weren’t too far behind as they finished the year with a record of 100-62.
Probable Pitchers
The Red Sox are expected to send star left-hander Chris Sale to the mound for the first game of this series. He was injured during the final stretch of the season but returned late and should be good to go. Sale is one of the best pitchers in baseball. He finished the season with a 12-4 record and a sparkling 2.11 ERA. Sale struck out 237 batters in only 158 innings pitched and will be a handful even for a talented Yankees lineup. Sale allowed only one run over two starts against the Yankees in the regular season.
New York has yet to announce its starter for the Game 1 contest. Luis Severino started the wild card game against the A’s so it clearly won’t be him. The belief is that the Yankees will turn to veteran left-hander J.A. Happ in the first game, although that has yet to be confirmed. If Happ goes, the Red Sox should be solid favorites as Sale is the clear better starter.
Boston is projected to throw left-hander David Price in Game 2 and right-hander Rick Porcello in Game 3. The Yankees’ rotation is unknown.
Key Stat
1,727. That’s the number of runs these teams combined for in the regular season as both offenses were dominant. The Yankees boast outfielder Aaron Judge and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton in the middle of the lineup and they are flanked by plenty of talent.
The Red Sox are led by MVP candidate Mookie Betts as well as slugger J.D. Martinez. Even though the pitching on both sides is good, the batters are so talented that some of the games in this series could be high scoring. Both stadiums are hitters parks so don’t be surprised to see run-line totals that are pretty high for this series.
