The Auburn Tigers’ defense was able to perform no small feat when it corralled Clemson’s high-powered offense last week. Unfortunately, Auburn’s offense couldn’t do enough and the Tigers fell to Clemson, 19-13.Auburn just missed out on what could have been a big-time upset, and will now aim to take care of business in Week 2 against the Arkansas State Red Wolves. For at least one week, the No. 14 Washington Huskies proved the hype was warranted coming into this season. With a rather weak schedule for the first third of the season, it will be a while until we see how good this team is and it will likely keep rolling over lightweights until then. The Mississippi State Bulldogs are probably still shaking their heads, trying to make sense of an unfathomable season-opening loss. Mississippi State gave up a 13-point fourth quarter lead to fall, 21-20, to Southern Alabama in a game where it was a four-touchdown favorite.Despite the huge upset loss, Mississippi State is favored again in Week 2 of the regular season when they take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. The North Carolina Tar Heels pushed Georgia to the brink in its season opener but fell short. They will hit the road in Week 2 of the regular season where they hope to rebound against the Illinois Fighting Illini.Even though Illinois had a dominant win in its opener and gets this one at home, the Tar Heels are a double-digit favorite to win. The Northern Illinois Huskies were 10-point favorites in their regular season opener and lost in triple overtime to Wyoming. Now there are legitimate questions about where they fit in the college football landscape. The Huskies will aim to turn it around in Week 2 but have a tough test as they travel to face the South Florida Bulls.South Florida took care of business in its first game and will enter this game as the heavy favorite. The Duke Blue Devils will attempt to take down the Wake Forest Demon Deacons for the fifth straight time when the ACC rivals cross paths in Week 2 Saturday afternoon. The No. 23 Baylor Bears were definitely glad to put the worst offseason in program history and get back out on the field. After a scandal that rocked the university to its foundation, the school cut ties, eventually, with everyone in a position of power that was involved including Art Briles. Briles was the best coach in school history and replacing him will be no easy matter. The Arkansas Razorbacks averted disaster with a one-point win over Louisiana Tech in its regular season opener. The caliber of play will need to be much higher if they have a chance at springing the upset on the TCU Horned Frogs in Week 2 of the regular season.TCU also didn’t perform impressively in its opener but came away with a win over South Dakota State. In a wild first week of college football, one thing remained constant. The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide were one of the few top-ranked teams that lived up to expectations and then some. Alabama showed once again why it is the hardest team in the country to beat and should be a unanimous No. 1 in the polls after its performance. The Iowa State Cyclones had a lot of optimism coming into the season under new head coach Matt Campbell, but there were questions marks surrounding an offensive line that only returned one player with experience as a starter. That concern ended up being a very real fear in the season opener, as the Cyclones could get nothing going on the ground and dropped a contest to small-school Northern Iowa.... 

The Tennessee Volunteers were sweating bullets in their regular season opener as the country watched Appalachian State push them to the brink. Tennessee eked out an overtime victory and hopes that isn’t a harbinger of things to come.... 

Fans of the Buckeyes will be waiting with bated breath to see what Urban Meyer has in store for an encore after he bludgeoned the team that gave him his first head coaching job 77-10 last week. Unfortunately for the up and coming Tulsa Golden Hurricane, their up next on the Week 2 docket for an Ohio State Buckeyes squad looking to score style points before next week’s big tilt with the Sooners.... 

AAC action is set to go in Week 2 when the UConn Huskies pack their bags for Annapolis where the Navy Midshipmen will look to host them for the first time as conference rivals. The visitors bring the more experienced team into this matchup, but Ken Niumatalolo has built a heck of a program at the Naval Academy and will be ready to extend his teams two game win streak in the recent series.... 

The USC Trojans certainly looked the part of the AP Poll’s No. 20 ranked team through one quarter of play against top ranked Alabama last Saturday night. That’s where the fun ended unfortunately, as the Crimson Tide toyed with their Pac-12 opponent the rest of the way ultimately turning the game into a one-sided laugher. Now Clay Helton’s kids have to regroup quickly in Week 2 against a sound Utah State team that has the rushing attack to add to the Trojans misery.... 

Nebraska got the benefit of running up against a Fresno State team in its home opener that made wholesale changes on both sides of the ball in the offseason. It still took them until the fourth quarter to be able to put some serious separation between themselves and the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. Army had only won two of its last five season openers. Each of those triumphs came in the comforts of their own stadium. But last week, the Black Knights did what the pointspread said was unfathomable by going into Temple and handling the Owls with ease 28-13 as 14.5 point underdogs. 16 years is a long time to go without playing your biggest in-state rival, but it’s been that long since the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Panthers have squared off. These programs seem to be in about the same place at this point, but while Pitt is happy to be an 8-win team every season, Penn State is anxious to be in this spot and James Franklin is on the hot seat. The East Carolina Pirates have had a reputation for being giant killers over the last few seasons. East Carolina has knocked off Virginia Tech in each of the last two seasons and before that, knocked off North Carolina as part of a home and home in 2013 and 2014. The buzz surrounding the No. 19 Louisville Cardinals has only intensified after their performance in the season opener. Lamar Jackson was one of the stars of the week thanks to eight first-half touchdowns against FBS newcomer Charlotte in a 56-point rout. Now, the Cardinals will look to build on that momentum with a win in its first conference game of the season. Louisville will take on the Syracuse Orange in College Football Week 2 on Friday.This matchup in Week 2 of the regular season will take place on Friday, September 9, 2016,at 8 p.m. ET at the Carrier Dome on ESPN2.... 

T. Boone Pickens almost saw his alma mater get to the College Football Playoff last season after a 10-0 start. The No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowboys rose to No. 4 in the polls, but then lost their last two regular season games to Baylor and Oklahoma and instead had to settle for a New Year’s Six Bowl. Hopes are high in Stillwater again this season despite a brutal road schedule, but before conference play starts, the Cowboys have to get through non-conference play unscathed. Football at a NASCAR track? For the first time ever this week, College GameDay will be live at a NASCAR track as Tennessee and Virginia Tech square off at Bristol Motor Speedway. Aside from that, College Football Week 2 looks remarkably barren but these are usually the weeks where crazy stuff happens. After an action filled Week 1, what does Week 2 have in store for us?... 

Though both the Cincinnati Bearcats and Purdue Boilermakers secured victories in their season debuts, neither was one each would confidently thump their chests about. Both offenses scuffled when you really dig into the numbers, and while a win is still a win, there’s still much work to be done for both clubs if in fact each is to record their second win of the season and take a step closer towards becoming bowl eligible.... 

After a disastrous 2015 season, the Maryland Terrapins started their season right with a win in their opener. The Terps cruised to a 52-13 win over FCS Howard in new coach DJ Durkin’s debut and held the Bison scoreless through the first three quarters of the game. Maryland has a more difficult opponent in College Football Week 2 against the Florida International Golden Panthers. If Maryland gets a win this week, it will need just one more to match its win total from last year.... 

After going winless a year ago, the Central Florida Golden Knights were able to crank out a win against South Carolina State in Scott Frost’s head coaching debut. That’s all good and dandy, but the overall effort was far from pristine and now they have to travel to the Big House in Week 2 where the Michigan Wolverines just dominated and nearly shutout Hawaii in their home debut. Jim Harbaugh looks to be out for style points before the schedule gets tougher, and that can only mean bad news for th...

The start shouldn’t be too tough as they take on the Wyoming Cowboys, who are coming off a poor season and are breaking in a new signal-caller.
