Week 8 in the Big Ten is in the books. The No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes steam rolled Rutgers, 49-0. Penn State squeaked by Maryland, 31-30. Michigan State, Wisconsin and Northwestern also added wins. We are past the halfway point of the season and all games become that much more important. Where did the season go, it seems like it just got started....
Cal had dreams of a Big Game showdown with Stanford deciding the Pac-12 North, but those dreams have been squashed with consecutive losses to Utah and UCLA. The Trojans, meanwhile, jumped back into the South picture with a resounding beatdown of the Utes last week, knocking Utah from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Golden Bears need a win to get back on track and they’ll have to beat SC for the first time in 12 tries to get there....
Ole Miss still controls its destiny in the SEC West with a game against LSU in two weeks and can’t afford to take a breather against an Auburn squad that is scratching and clawing just to qualify for a bowl game. Auburn beat the Rebels in heartbreaking fashion last season and is 5-1 SU and ATS in the last six games between the teams....
Michigan looks to bounce back after a stunning loss to Michigan State two weeks ago and continue its quick rebuild under Jim Harbaugh. Minnesota is dealing with the emotional retirement of its coach and faces the Big Ten gauntlet down the stretch.The outlook is good for the Wolverines to reclaim the Little Brown Jug. They haven’t lost in Minneapolis since 1977....
The matchup between Georgia and Florida could be called the unofficial SEC East championship game because the winner will have the inside track to capturing the division title. The Gators lost on the road to an unbeaten LSU team by a slim margin, proving they are the team to beat in the East. In their first game without Nick Chubb, the Bulldogs failed to score a touchdown. They did beat Missouri, though, and are just a game behind Florida in the standings....
The Longhorns lost four of their first five games, but have now taken two straight and look to extend that to three against Iowa State. Texas has, however, yet to win a game on the road....
My, how the mighty have fallen. In a span of just seven days, the Texas A&M Aggies went from a Top 10 team to one with no shot whatsoever to either win the SEC West or reach the College Football Playoff with successive losses to Alabama and Ole Miss. The Aggies should get back on track this week though against one of the weaklings of the SEC East, the South Carolina Gamecocks....
Sitting at a perfect 7-0 for the first time in program history, the Temple Owls will have the eyes of the college football world staring directly at them when they host No. 9 Notre Dame on Saturday. Temple is ranked for the first time since 1979 and most of the players on the team weren’t even born the last time the Owls played a game of this magnitude. It’ll be business as usual for the Irish coming off a bye week owning a 6-1 SU and ATS record....
For the first time in three years, No. 17 Florida State enters a regular season game off a loss. Last week’s last-second 22-16 loss at Georgia Tech on a blocked field goal and 78-yard return sent shockwaves through college football again. Syracuse has lost four-straight following three wins to start the season, including last week’s last-second 23-20 loss to Pittsburgh....
The No. 11 Florida Gators are a 3-point favorite over the Georgia Bulldogs with a total of 48 in their annual rivalry game in Jacksonville, FL.The Gators are on top of the SEC East at 4-1 while Georgia is solo second at 3-2 and both teams enter off a bye week....
The Clemson Tigers made a tremendous statement last week when they went on the road and handed Miami its worst loss in school history. The Tigers though, are still on upset alert this week as we see it against the North Carolina State Wolfpack....
Louisville certainly didn’t earn any style points for the way in which it beat Boston College last week, but the Cardinals don’t care as they work their way back toward bowl eligibility. Wake Forest, on the other hand, is just looking for points. Preferably the ones on the scoreboard as the Demon Deacons rank near the bottom of the FBS in points per game....
A key ACC Coastal division clash is set to go on ESPN Thursday as Pitt hosts North Carolina with each team 6-1 this season.Pitt is 4-0 in ACC play with a stronger defense while North Carolina is 3-0 with the league’s highest-scoring offense....
With other Top 10 teams falling around them over the course of the last few weeks, the TCU Horned Frogs have to feel really good about where they sit heading into the second half of their season. They've got a really dangerous road ahead against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Thursday night though, a game which could very easily derail their season....
Wyoming holds up the rear of the Mountain West standings and will likely finish the season in the conference cellar, but the Cowboys are a pesky team for bettors having covered five of eight even though they managed just one outright win in those matchups....
The season hasn’t gone according to plan for Oregon and Arizona State. With Pac-12 championship expectations and national contender status all but gone, the two are now playing for bowl eligibility. The start of the post-Marcus Mariota era hasn’t gone well for the Ducks, who are beatable this season, and that’s good news for the Sun Devils, who haven’t defeated Oregon since the 2004 season, dropping eight straight games in the series going 2-6 ATS....
There aren't any real headliner games on the Week 9 college football slate, but that's going to put some bettors in some tough spots. Many of the Top 25 teams in the land are favored by huge margins this week, and that in and of itself is tough to handicap, especially now that we're fully entrenched in conference play....

Stanford is the hottest thing in the Pac-12 this side of Salt Lake City, and has a chance to dispose of another North Division contender when it hosts Washington. The Cardinal turned its season around following an opening day flop against Northwestern and crept back into the national rankings at No. 10. A sixth straight win is likely against a Huskies squad that could be without starting quarterback Jake Browning, who sustained a shoulder injury last week....
The race in the SEC West is getting serious and the winner of this game remains in the hunt. The loser, meanwhile, is all but eliminated from contention. Despite thinking the season ended after beating Alabama, Ole Miss controls its destiny in the division race. Win out, starting with Texas AM, and the Rebels will be playing in Atlanta on Dec. 5. Ole Miss is 1-3 ATS against SEC teams and has failed to cover in three of four games since the Bama win....
Alabama has flexed its muscles and is looking like a true national title contender once again. The further the one loss is behind them, the more it looks like a blip on the screen. It’s been eight years since Tennessee last celebrated a win over the Tide, and most of those games haven’t been close. The streak covers one of the darkest eras of UT football and some of the best in the Tides glorious history....
Florida State and Georgia Tech meet in a rematch of last year’s thrilling ACC Championship game. But while the Seminoles remain in title contention this season, the Yellow Jackets have been a disappointment. FSU enters with a 28-game conference win streak, one win shy of its own record set in 1992-95. Ironically, the 29th win of the record streak was against Georgia Tech....
A game that had much more significance before the season began now has teams simply fighting for bowl eligibility. Arkansas has underwhelmed this season and needs a win to entertain any real hope of going bowling. Auburn has shown signs of life with back-to-back wins, but hasn’t been good to its supporters, going 1-10 ATS in its last 11 games....
Ohio State remains the No. 1 team in the country in this week’s AP Poll but the 7-0 Buckeyes have not rewarded their betting backers enough going 2-5 ATS. The Buckeyes are laying big road chalk this week against 3-3 Rutgers, who returns home following a stunning 55-52 upset at Indiana in a game the Scarlet Knights trailed 52-27....
