Conventions Close And Campaigns Begin

U.S. Presidential News for Monday, August 26, 2024

Presidential Election Betting: The Democrat Party convention held last week in Chicago was a success. Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton addressed the crowd, as did former first lady Michelle Obama. Additionally, Democrat celebrities had their say. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and Oprah Winfrey took the podium for some words as well. But the Democrats relied too much on star power when they lied about Beyonce showing up to drive up viewership for the final night, which was when Kamala Harris gave her acceptance speech. After the convention there was no doubt that the Democrats ignited their base for the fall campaign. But the bigger question is how did it play in the rest of the country?

Harris Spoke Well About Nothing

Kamala Haris received rave reviews from a fawning full-court liberal press that has acted as her campaign promotion team. It was a nauseating display by a media that no longer even tries to hide its bias. While Harris spoke well, she spoke about nothing of substance. It was cotton candy. The address was nothing but vague platitudes and generalizations. It was as if Harris didn’t want voters to know what she really stands for. And that is because she doesn’t.

An Empty Pant Suit

Harris has been the presumptive Democrat nominee for over a month and is yet to update her website with policy details. Although she is a small betting favorite with a marginal lead in the polls, her problem is that the longer the campaign goes, the more she will be exposed as vapid. Harris will have to try and run delay tactics in order to make voters believe that she is normal and one of them. The truth is she is more radical than any presidential nominee in history. It will be hard for that not to be exposed, even with “news” media totally in the tank.

RFK Drops Outs to Ally with Trump

Robert F Kennedy Jr, a lifelong Democrat who was running an independent and insurgent campaign, suspended operations on Friday to endorse Republican nominee Donald Trump. A lot of the right-wing media squealed that Kennedy’s decision would put Trump over the top come election time. The problem with the theory is that RFK had marginal support, and most voters will have already forgotten about him and his alliance with Trump by the start of this week. RFK could mean a point or two at best, which would help in key swing states, but not as much as the conservative pundits claim.

Trump Must Keep His Train on the Tracks

The late great President Ronald Reagan often said that when Republicans run on issues, they win, but when they run on personalities, the Democrats prevail. The Democrats have the perpetual problem of desperately wanting to govern against the will of the people. Thus, they must talk in platitudes with no specifics. Trump and the Republicans are winning big in the polls on such issues as the border, energy production, crime, and taxes. The only issue the Democrats have a big advantage with is abortion and “reproductive” issues. It's no accident that the most dominant demographics in the Democrat’s favor are single women. Married women give Trump a polling advantage.

Obama took a lot of shots at Trump regarding his obsession with crowd sizes and the like. As arrogant and conceited as Obama is, he’s not wrong about Trump. Trump must focus like a laser beam on the issues that people agree with him on and do so in a professional manner. His 2016 win based on issues and shock jock vernacular was right at that time. But these times call for more polish and maturity.
