Trump Warns Worst is Yet to Come as He Remains Chalk

Incumbent US President Trump has combined optimism about America’s economic future with a grim forecast for the next week or two ahead. Trump and his task force of scientists and medical experts believe that the next 10 to 14 days will be the worst yet for the United States in regards to the COVID-19 crisis. So far Trump’s daily update briefings have done the country and himself more good than harm. He has reassured the country and let his experts give the American people reality-based guidance and expectations for what lies ahead.

Trump has increased slightly as the betting favorite based on his performance during the crisis. However, the bleak economic numbers and high death toll expected this week combined with the performance of all politicians in both parties will have an effect. In politics perception is reality that that translates to the betting public as well.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo has impressed both sides of the aisle with his performance during the pandemic. That and the fact that he can actually handle a high-pressure press conference makes him more attractive to Democrats nervous about bumbling Joe Biden.

The New York governor has impressed even conservative Republicans during COVID-19. This has made many Democrats dream of finding a way to get Joe Biden out of the way for Cuomo to become the party’s nominee for president. True, Cuomo’s overall record as governor of New York is not good and he was underwater with his approval ratings right before the crisis but he raised his game when it has mattered most. If Cuomo can’t get the nomination for the top of the ticket he may end up as the vice-presidential nominee, despite Biden originally promising a woman for that slot.

It’s not just Republicans taking shots at the former vice president but Democrats themselves. Biden has in many ways been one of the biggest losers in the COVID-19 crisis. Biden has tired to do updates and speeches from the makeshift TV studio built on the fly in his basement but those have flopped miserably. Technical problems and Biden’s inability to offer coherent presentations without slurring words and blanking out have freaked out Democrats who admit Trump would maul him in a debate. At his best Biden speaks in empty platitudes. Even Trump critics admit that Biden could not stand up to a hostile press two hours a day on national TV like Trump does.

Democrats to Forsake Frivolity and Identity Politics?

Empty skirt candidates like Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, etc. were indicative of a Democrat Party that had nothing of substance to offer. And proof that the Trump economy was a powerful force that would have been difficult to beat. Democrat frivolity of millions of dollars being wasted on cow flatulence, solar panels and wind tunnels is totally irrelevant now.

A country at war against an invisible enemy has forced at least some Democrats to be serious. Cuomo blew off numerous warnings about shortages of equipment should a pandemic hit. And he participated in a lot of his own crackpot wacko-bird policies. But at crunch time he got himself together. As has Donald Trump who, contrary to what the media and Democrats scream, is listening to “the experts.” At least for now.
