Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid last week essentially sealed Barca’s fourth La Liga title in the last five seasons. The Blaugrana are now 11 points ahead of second-place Atletico with seven matches to go in the season, and it’s nearly impossible to see them blowing that kind of lead. The battle for fourth place remains interesting after some surprising results last week though, and that will be the main thing to watch down the stretch.

Alaves are starting to fall back down to Earth, and there’s no telling where they will land. With a negative goal differential, they were fortunate to be in the top five for as long as they were, and now they are in the middle of a three match winless streak. Although Espanyol are 13th in the table, they are 8-2-5 at home and an odds-on favorite on the three-way line.
Sometimes it’s good to be a minnow. Barcelona have bigger fish to fry as they face Manchester United on Wednesday and again next Tuesday, and the Blaugrana won’t focus too hard on Huesca with a spot in the Champions League semifinals on the line. That’s great news for Huesca who are in last place at the moment and lost 8-2 to Barcelona back in September.
Celta Vigo notched a huge win to lift them out of the relegation zone when they beat Real Sociedad last week. Winning this week will be much more difficult, but Atletico won’t have Diego Costa after he picked up a red card early against Barcelona last week for some choice words.
Sevilla are continuing their rollercoaster like season, and they are now just one point behind Getafe for fourth in the table. The Sevilla Derby is the most underrated derby in Spain though, as the rivalry between Sevilla and Real Betis is intense. Betis would love nothing more than to thwart their city rivals.

Real Valladolid have the second-worst home record of any team in Spain this season. They are 3-4-8 at home, and that has them fighting with Villarreal in the relegation battle. Valladolid aren’t that big of an underdog against fourth-place Getafe this week though. Getafe are 4-10-2 on the road this year.
Athletic Bilbao fell to Getafe last weekend, but the Basque club still has a decent chance at qualifying for European play next season. Bilbao have earned a result in 14 of 16 home matches this season, and they will be facing relegation-threatened Rayo Vallecano.
The battle between Girona and Villarreal this weekend stands to be fierce. Girona are the worst-home team in La Liga with a 2-6-8 mark as hosts. Villarreal are once again in the relegation zone, but this team is not nearly as bad as their 30 points suggests they are.
Valencia’s 17-match unbeaten streak came to an end with a stunning 2-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano, and The Bats need to make up ground to qualify for the Champions League now. Levante have the most porous defense in the league, with 56 goals allowed this season.

Real Madrid are largely favored here because of the name on their jersey, as a change in manager really hasn’t done much to change the play on the field. They are set for a top three finish, but that’s about all this season.
