Two of the three non-Spanish clubs to win a Champions League title in the last decade are Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Chelsea bested Bayern Munich in penalties in Allianz Arena in the 2012 Champions League Final to claim its first and only title in this competition, but Bayern Munich avenged that defeat with a 2-1 victory over Bundesliga rival Borussia Dortmund in Wembley Stadium the following year. The Blues are hefty underdogs per the soccer betting odds this time around, as Bayern Munich are one of the favorites to win this year’s title.

Odds Analysis
Bayern Munich have won seven straight Bundesliga titles, and they have a one-point lead on Red Bull Leipzig in this year’s league race. They have fallen off a little in domestic play as Bayern are no longer running away with the league, but they have been incredible in the Champions League this season. The German juggernauts were the only club to win all six Group Stage games, and Bayern won all but one game by multiple goals. Their most impressive victory was a 7-2 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur in London, as Serge Gnabry netted four second half goals.
The Blues only just managed to make it to the knockout round of the Champions League. Chelsea went 3-2-1 in the Group Stage, and they needed to overcome a 4-1 home deficit to Ajax on Matchday 4 to earn a draw that ended up salvaging their hopes. They have not been too impressive in Premier League action in recent weeks, failing to register a victory since January 11, and that has Chelsea clinging to a spot in next year’s Champions League.
Key Injuries
Center back Niklas Sule is a long-term injury for Bayern Munich. Sule suffered a torn ACL back in October, and he will likely miss the rest of the season as he recovers. Winger Ivan Perisic will miss this match as well due to an ankle injury, but he could be ready for the return leg in Munich next month.
Marco van Ginkel is a long-term injury concern for Chelsea, and their best player is out for the foreseeable future too. N’Golo Kante suffered a thigh injury in last week’s loss to Manchester United, and he is expected to miss at least three weeks. To make matters worse, Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are both doubtful to play, while Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi are questionable. Andreas Christensen is probable.
Matchup to Watch
Robert Lewandowski has made a habit of being at his best in the Champions League. Lewandowski’s 63 career goals in this competition are tied for the fifth-most all-time, and he is the leading goal scorer this season. The Polish international has 10 goals in five games, and he netted at least one goal in each game he played during the Group Stage.
It’s going to be difficult to stop Lewandowski and Bayern Munich’s attack without a healthy Kante. He’s the person that Chelsea could least afford to lose before this match, as he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the game. The Blues don’t have a great back line, and they will be vulnerable without help from the midfield.
Free Soccer Betting Pick
With Tammy Abraham banged up and slumping, Bayern Munich are the play on Tuesday. Chelsea have not had much success on the attack over the last month, and it’s hard to trust them against such a well-rounded foe.
Champions League Odds: Bayern Munich 2, Chelsea 0
