Coming into this year’s Champions League, Group B and Group C were trumpeted as the two toughest groups with the most intriguing match-ups. That has proven to be the case. In Group B, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Tottenham Hotspur have continued to duke it out, while Group C is wide open with Napoli, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Red Star Belgrade all within two points of one another. This Wednesday’s Champions League matches will feature teams from Groups A through D.
The Champions League Group Stage will last from September 18 to December 2. There will be eight groups with four teams in each group, and the top two teams in each group will advance to the Round of 16. Check out all the action this week at BookMaker.

Considering Barcelona almost certainly has one of the two knockout round spots locked up in Group B, the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan is essentially an elimination match. Tottenham are in desperate need of a win, while any other result would almost surely result in Inter Milan advancing over Spurs.
Spurs have only themselves to blame. In the first match between these two teams, they were level or ahead for nearly the entire match. It was level through the first half, and then Christian Eriksen opened the scoring for Tottenham in the 53rd minute. They held the lead for the next 30 or so minutes, and then it all changed in the final 10 minutes. Mauro Icardi leveled the score in the 85th minute, and then Matias Vecino notched the game-winner two minutes into extra time to give Inter Milan all three points. That seriously hurt Tottenham’s chances, and then a draw to PSV and an Inter draw with PSV put them on life support.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this for Spurs. They were optimistic that this year could represent their big breakthrough with nearly the entire squad back, as they made no significant offseason changes. Instead, they find themselves needing a victory at home against Inter, and anything else won’t cut it.
Unfortunately, they are somewhat banged up ahead of this one with players like Kieran Trippier, Mousa Dembele, and Davinson Sanchez potentially out.

Group C has been incredibly crazy, and everything was turned on its head three weeks ago when Liverpool lost to Red Star Belgrade. The Reds looked like they were clear of danger, and they were heavily favored to get past the team based in Serbia, but instead they lost 2-0 and anyone could take the lead headed into the last matchday at the end of the day.
Ahead of this game, Liverpool and Napoli have six points, while Paris Saint-Germain is right behind them with five points but have a +4 goal differential to their name.
In the first meeting between these two sides, there were plenty of goals. At Anfield, the Reds raced out to an early 2-0 lead, but Thomas Meunier halved the lead shortly before the halftime whistle and Kylian Mbappe leveled in the 83rd minute. That had PSG optimistic for a crucial point, but Roberto Firmino bailed out the home side with a goal in extra time to give Liverpool the victory.
Now, it’s PSG who need at least a point, but they received the worst possible news over the international break. Both Mbappe and Neymar were hurt while playing for their countries in friendlies, and that is incredibly poor timing. Neither one of the injuries were serious, but their status is still in doubt for this game and this is an all hands on deck moment. A loss here would likely relegate PSG to the Europa League.
