At long last, the Champions League will get underway this Tuesday. There will be eight matches on Tuesday as part of the first matchday, with every team in Group A – Group D taking part. Rather than highlight every single match, we will just give a brief overview of the day’s top matches, with something to watch for in each one. Group B and Group C are the most interesting groups with teams like Tottenham, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool all kicking off.

It looks like Tottenham will be without two of their key starters in this match. Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris have both been dealing with injuries, and both players have already been ruled out against Liverpool on Saturday and Inter Milan on Tuesday according to Sky Sports.
The injury to Lloris means that Michel Vorm is now Spurs’ goalkeeper for the foreseeable future. Vorm is a veteran who has been around for a while, but he hasn’t seen much action during his time at Tottenham. He has just 12 Premier League appearances during that time, mostly playing in domestic cups. Vorm did get a start in the Champions League last season, but that was after Spurs had already clinched a spot in the knockout rounds. The start was against Cyprus’ APOEL, a team that is a far cry from the side he will face on Tuesday.
Inter Milan will be without one of their key players as well. Lautaro Martinez has been ruled out by manager Luciano Spalletti, and that will sting somewhat. However, this is a club that got much better in the offseason, signing a number of talented players. Inter grabbed Radja Nainggolan and World Cup hero Sime Vrsaljko, and that has made this defense significantly better.
In Martinez’ absence, Ivan Perisic will be asked to create more on offense. Perisic was brilliant for Croatia at the World Cup, and he has carried that brilliance over to his club. He leads Inter Milan with two goals through the club’s first three matches in Serie A.

This will be the game that most people are looking forward to. Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are the two favorites to get out of Group C, and both teams are considered favorites to win the Champions League. However, a feisty Napoli team is also in this group and could capitalize if one of these teams stumbles.
Paris Saint-Germain will be without a number of their starters when they travel to Anfield for this important tilt. Layvin Kurzawa, Dani Alves, Marco Verratti, Gianluigi Buffon, and Adrien Rabiot are all slated to miss the match, and that will give the home side a boost.
However, PSG still boasts three of the most lethal scorers in the world in Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Edinson Cavani. The trio are off to a hot start in Ligue 1, and they will cause problems for Liverpool’s back line.
The Reds have some talented goal scorers of their own. Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane tore up the Premier League last season, and Liverpool rode their trio to the Champions League Final last year. They shored up their goalkeeping too by adding Alisson from Roma, and new acquisition Naby Keita has fit in quite nicely with the club.
There could be a plethora of goals when the two former Borussia Dortmund managers meet at Liverpool on Tuesday, so the over might be worth a play.
