MLS Saturday, June 24 Parlay Picks

We are just past the halfway point of the 2023 MLS season. Fans are on pins and needles as Lionel Messi will make his debut on July 21, and Inter Miami tickets are selling for well over $1,000. The club will be the toast of the league whenever Messi is on the roster, but they might not even make the postseason at this point. Inter Miami is currently the worst team in the Eastern Conference with 15 points in 17 matches. They have only earned a single result on the road this season, and that needs to change if the club is going to make up the ground needed to qualify for the playoffs.

Home field has proven to be pretty important for most teams so far this season, so I’m backing two teams playing on their own grounds this week in MLS action. Charlotte FC is currently tied with DC United for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

This is just the second season for The Crown since they were an expansion team in 2022, but they have been a decent all-around team this year even if they don’t have a true No. 9 that can finish up top.

Justin Meram continues to show why he is a valued veteran in the MLS with three goals and four assists in 10 matches. Generation Adidas midfielder Ben Bender might be ready to make the leap after notching a brace inside of 20 minutes against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday night, and Karol Swiderski leads the team with five goals.

Meanwhile, CF Montreal has some pretty gnarly home and road splits. While the team formerly known as the Impact are a sterling 7-1-0 in Quebec, they are 1-8-1 away from home this season. Additionally, the goal differential is markedly different depending on where CF Montreal are playing as this team has been outscored 24-5 in its 10 road tilts. It’s been very difficult for this team to score, as the club is really missing star forward Romell Quioto who is out for at least another few weeks with a hamstring injury.

As for Inter Miami, they will be the hottest ticket in town at this point next month no matter where they rank in the table. Lionel Messi is the biggest name to come to the MLS in the league’s history, surpassing David Beckham joining the Los Angeles Galaxy and rivaling Pele’s decision to play with the New York Cosmos in the twilight of his career. He will immediately make this team significantly better, but right now they are having some real issues putting the ball in the back of the net. Inter Miami has just 16 goals in 17 matches as Josef Martinez and Leonardo Campana haven’t received the service they need at the top of the formation.

That should lead to an easy win for the Philadelphia Union on Saturday. Philadelphia is a solid all-around team, and the Union will be looking for revenge after they lost 2-0 to Inter Miami in Fort Lauderdale back in early March. After a rough start to the season, the Eastern Conference champions are 7-3-1 in their last 11 matches with the only defeat coming on a cross-country trip to San Jose.

Philly has the fourth best goal differential in the league. The Union won’t have standout goalkeeper Andre Blake this week as he is on international duty, but Julian Carranza, Daniel Gazdag, and Mikael Here have combined for 22 goals.
