Top Contenders

There are five teams that have odds of +1089 or less. The Patriots and Eagles are the top two choices in the betting odds, while the Rams, Steelers and Vikings are closely bunched together at odds of about +1000. The Patriots will have the ageless Tom Brady leading them and Bill Belichick as head coach, so New England should be in the mix for yet another Super Bowl title. The Eagles are the defending champions and they get Carson Wentz back at quarterback.

The Steelers are thought of as the main competition to the Patriots in the AFC, but Pittsburgh has a quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger who has contemplated retirement and a running back in Le’Veon Bell who is almost assuredly playing his last season with the Steelers. The Los Angeles Chargers are getting a lot of love from bettors, as they are listed with odds of +1320 and the Chargers have a stout defense to go along with quarterback Philip Rivers. The Jacksonville Jaguars nearly made the Super Bowl last season before falling to New England and the Houston Texans can’t be forgotten, as they get Deshaun Watson back from injury.

The NFL competition to the Eagles looks to be tough, as the Rams and Vikings made a number of off-season moves. The Rams bolstered their defense, while the Vikings have a new starting quarterback in Kirk Cousins. Also in the mix in the NFC could be the Green Bay Packers who have a healthy Aaron Rodgers returning at quarterback and the New Orleans Saints who have a very good running game to complement future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees. Not to be forgotten in the NFC are the vastly improved San Francisco 49ers who have a potential superstar in quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and a defense that should be vastly improved with the addition of Richard Sherman.

Live Longshots

The NFL has shown from time to time that longshots are worth betting to win the Super Bowl. Just go back to last season when the Eagles were listed as underdogs to win the title. Teams that are listed at odds of +2500 or more that could surprise this season are the aforementioned 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs with new starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Dallas Cowboys who have Ezekiel Elliott, the Raiders and new head coach Jon Gruden, the Panthers who have shown in the past they are capable of making a big run and the Denver Broncos who have a good defense and a new quarterback in Case Keenum.
