Buffalo Bills Offense
This offense has been one of the best in football for the last two years. In 2020, Buffalo ranked second in total offense and scoring offense, and this offense ranked third in scoring offense and fifth in scoring defense last year.
Josh Allen’s development has been the reason behind that success. Allen was somewhat written off after his first two years in the NFL, but he has been one of the league’s best signal callers for the last two seasons. He is an exceptional runner for a player his size, and he has been a very efficient passer since the team traded for elite wide out Stefon Diggs.
Diggs will be the No. 1 receiver on the Bills once again. He led the team with 103 receptions for 1,225 yards and 10 touchdowns last year, and he can stretch the field with his top end speed. Tight end Dawson Knox is a solid red zone target that had nine receiving touchdowns last year, but the Bills are really hoping that Gabriel Davis takes the next step. Davis turned it on at the end of the regular season and was sensational in the playoffs, and the team will rely on him and veteran possession receiver Jamison Crowder to replace Emmanuel Sanders and Cole Beasley.
The only downside of this offense is the ground game. Devin Singletary has not been the difference maker many were expecting, and he has yet to run for more than 900 yards in a season. Buffalo used a second-round pick on Georgia’s James Cook in order to help on this front, and that could be just the spark this offense needs to go to the next level.
Buffalo Bills Defense
The Bills ranked first in total defense and scoring defense in 2021. Buffalo has an excellent defensive line with stars like Ed Oliver and Shaw Lawson, and the linebacking corps should be one of the best in the league this season.
Tremaine Edmunds has made the Pro Bowl in two of the last three years, and he has recorded over 100 tackles in four straight seasons. Matt Milano is one of the top weak side linebackers in the game, and the addition of former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller should make this unit even better.
This was the best secondary in the league last year. Tre’Davious White is a lockdown corner that can shut down his side of the field, and the safety tandem of Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde is the best in the NFL. Buffalo allowed just 5.5 YPA and 176.7 passing yards per game last season, ranking first in the league in both categories. First-round pick Kaiir Elam is expected to be an immediate contributor too across from White.
Prediction
There aren’t many teams that you would bet on to win 12 games or more, but Buffalo is one of them. The Bills have talent at every position, and they have fewer questions than any other team in the league. They don’t have another elite team in their division, and they are currently favored in 15 games this season. That makes the over the best bet here.
