2024 San Francisco 49ers Season Win Total Odds and Pick

2024 San Francisco 49ers Season Win Total Betting

Oddsmakers expect the San Francisco 49ers to pick right back up where they left off last NFL betting season and once again be one of the league’s elites with most of the key players from last season’s run to the Super Bowl remaining on the roster. Consequently, San Francisco is favored to win the NFC +243 and is installed heavy chalk favorites to win the NFC West a third straight time. Only the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs possess shorter odds to win Super Bowl LIX than the Niners +650 with the teams’ 11.5-game win totals the highest of all 32 teams. With top-10 scoring units, both for and against, returning to both sides of the ball and offseason improvements made by GM John Lynch to improve a defense that faltered late in the year, the window of opportunity remains open for the 49ers to get another crack at hoisting the Lombardi. In order to do so however, the reigning NFC champs will be forced to run up against what one can only be described as a hellacious schedule. Not so much in terms of schedule strength, but from a rest perspective with the Niners forced to oppose a number of high caliber rested teams coming off a short week. Coupled with the heavy mileage logged by their veterans last season, it's uncertain if the team has another 12+ wins up their sleeve. Whether this prevents acquiring the franchise's sixth Super Bowl title is the question all NFL futures bettors are eager to see answered as the 2024-25 NFL betting season unfolds.

A Case for the Over: Christian McCaffrey was the consensus No. 1 pick in fantasy football last season, and he delivered with a record-setting performance. He combined for over 2,000 scrimmage yards, achieved a career-high 1,459 rushing yards, and scored a career-high 21 touchdowns, solidifying the Niners' rushing attack as a top-3 unit to earn himself some hardware in the form of the Offensive Player of the Year Award. Brock Purdy also had a stellar season, throwing for 4,280 yards and a 31:11 TD/INT ratio, nearly averaging a first down per every pass thrown in averaging 9.6 yards per attempt. He got some postseason award love as well finishing fourth in MVP Award voting. This dynamic duo helped San Francisco maintain one of the league’s most balanced offensive attacks, operating behind one of the best offensive lines when healthy. While Deebo Samuel showed out in spurts once again, Brandon Aiyuk proved to be the PTPer of the receiving corps after turning his 75 receptions into 1,342 yards and seven touchdown catches. All of the unit’s key players are returning, and as long as Aiyuk isn't traded, which I truly don’t foresee happening, the 49ers' offense will once again be a formidable challenge for opposing defenses to contend with for a full 60 minutes every passing week.

A Case for the Under: San Francisco’s defense allowed leads of 10-0, 16-13, 19-16, and 22-19 to slip away against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, leading to Steve Wilks being replaced by first-time defensive coordinator Nick Sorenson. Sorenson, who has been with the 49ers' coaching staff since 2022, started as a defensive assistant and was promoted to passing game specialist and nickels coach before stepping into the coordinator role this past offseason. The 10-year NFL safety and 12-year coach now faces the challenge of managing a defense featuring stars like Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave, Fred Warner, Talanoa Hufanga, and new additions Leonard Floyd and De’Vondre Campbell. I’m not sure he’s ready to take on those personalities. On top of that, the secondary is what proved to be the defense’s Achilles heel last season, and he was partly responsible for the output on the field. Despite the team’s schedule strength ranking out in the middle of the pack, the defense will square off against the formidable passing offenses of the Rams (twice), Chiefs, Cowboys, Packers, Bills, Dolphins, and Lions. I'm skeptical that the offense can consistently compensate for the stop unit’s shortcomings if the pass defense continues being the proverbial thorn in the side.

After representing the NFC in the Super Bowl last season, the NFL schedule makers have once again placed San Francisco under the national spotlight. The 49ers are slated to participate in six prime time games across Thursday, Sunday, and Monday Night Football, highlighting the franchise's popularity and recent success. However, this attention comes with a downside: the team faces a league-high eight games at a rest disadvantage and will go up against teams coming off their respective bye weeks four times. Although their Week 9 bye follows home games against the Chiefs and Cowboys, the latter half of the schedule is daunting, featuring matchups against the @Buccaneers, Seahawks, @Packers, @Bills, Bears, Rams, @Dolphins, Lions, and @Cardinals. Currently favored in all 17 regular season games per the full season odds at the online sportsbook, the high expectations seem overwhelming, especially considering the toll taken in by last season's Super Bowl run. Any significant injury to an offensive key player could expose vulnerabilities, as the defense may not be able to compensate. Despite San Francisco cashing the over on their season win total odds last year, adding to my personal bankroll, I anticipate a slight regression this football betting season that prevents Shanahan and Co. from exceeding expectations a third consecutive year.
