With the news of Jimmy Garoppolo’s season-ending knee injury, the odds of the San Francisco 49ers winning the Super Bowl skyrocketed. Heck, forget about the Super Bowl, how about winning a few games and finishing with a better record than they had last season. The odds of doing that increased as well now that C.J. Beathard will be behind center and the Niners opened as a 9-point dog for their Week 4 tilt with the Los Angeles Chargers. Even that number was hard to stomach as the line moved a full point with a majority of the early plays favoring the Bolts.

San Francisco 49ers +10.5
Los Angeles Chargers -10.5

Losing prized free agent Jerrick McKinnon to a knee injury at the end of training camp was bad enough. Now the Niners have to navigate the rest of the season without their savior as Garoppolo is done. The two can now discuss next year’s game plan during their rehab. Garoppolo wasn’t exactly tearing up the league in his first year as a full-time starter. He completed less than 60 percent of his passes, tossed three picks and was sacked 13 times. But his presence and what he is able to do made the Niners competitive.
Now it’s back to team that put its fans to sleep the past few years. The offense will take a big step back in terms of point production and you can bet Kyle Shanahan will turn to the NFL’s leading rusher in an effort to keep things moving. Matt Breida has been a surprise taking over as the lead back in McKinnon’s absence. He’s tied for the NFL lead with 274 yards and averages a robust 8.6 yards per carry. His ability to break off a long gainer should keep fans interested at the live betting platform at BookMaker.eu.
Line Move
The early line move shows that the public is fading the Niners now that their starting quarterback is on the shelf. The spread climbed to Chargers -10.5 and could continue to move before kickoff. That’s not all bad for the Niners since double-digit dogs have fared well this season. Buffalo and Jacksonville won their games outright last weekend and teams spotted at least 10 points on the closing line this year are 3-1 straight up. So, while the Niners may be down, they certainly are not out.
James Gang
The Chargers’ game plan is going to be simple: put the ball in Beathard’s hands and let him try to beat you. Eliminating the ground game will be a priority since the Niners have been exceptionally good in that area. They rank second in the NFL with an average of 152.7 yards per game and Breida is tied for the league-lead with 274 yards. Crowd the box and cover over the top, that’s what the Bolts will do, and look for Derwin James to get his hands on a pass or two. The ball-hawking DB has been all over the field and he had his first career pick last week. Beathard tossed six interceptions in 224 pass attempts last season, so find a prop bet at BookMaker.eu and go with James to get another interception.
Free ATS Pick
It’s not just the offense of the Niners that is banged up the defense has had its share of ailments this season. The secondary was a mess last week and it showed with Patrick Mahomes throwing three first-half touchdown passes and the Chiefs scoring 35 points in the first 30 minutes. Philip Rivers is licking his chops at the thought of facing this group. Rivers and the Bolts aren’t shy about throwing the football and they’ll look for a quick strike against a team that has to be down after hearing about Jimmy G.
And don’t expect the Bolts to overlook the Niners, especially after what happened last weekend in Minnesota and Jacksonville. Bet this game now at Bookmaker.eu and go with the Chargers to cover the first half line and Rivers to throw a couple of scoring passes.
NFL Betting Odds: Chargers 30, 49ers 13
