It’s been a wacky 2024 NFL season with the San Francisco 49ers one of the biggest surprises as they enter their Week 12 contest with the Green Bay Packers with a record of just 5-5. Following last year’s run to the Super Bowl, the Niners were expected to once again be a force in the NFC but they find themselves currently outside the playoff picture. The good news is that they compete in the NFC West and are just one game out of first place. They need to find more consistency and will look to do that against the Packers, whom they’ve beaten the last two times they played, which were both in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs. At 7-3 the Packers still have a shot at the NFC North title and opened as a 2.5-point favorite at the Bitcoin sportsbook.

Two weeks in a row now I missed on the Sunday NFL same game parlay. I did back the Buffalo Bills at -2.5 in their game with Kansas City, and the Bills handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season, 30-21, covering the line. Unfortunately I had two strong defenses keeping the point total below 46.5, which obviously wasn’t the case. KC held seven of their first nine opponents to 20 points or less and allowed a season-high with Josh Allen improving his MVP stock. Allen threw a TD pass and added another on the ground clinching the victory.
We have another important game as far as postseason positioning is concerned. The Niners earned the top seed in the NFC last season with a 12-5 record and have already matched their loss total following their 20-17 setback to Seattle in Week 12. The Niners have lost games they wouldn’t think of dropping in previous seasons, the Seattle game being one of them. They also lost games to division foes LA and Arizona blowing fourth quarter leads.
At times it doesn’t feel like it, but the Niners boast one of the top offenses in the NFL. They rank second in total yards and yards per play but have failed to convert that into points. The Niners average 25 points, ninth-best in the NFL. The offense has been hampered by injuries contributing to the decline. Brandon Aiyuk is out for the season and George Kittle missed last week’s game. Brock Purdy turned up on this week’s injury report with a sore shoulder but is expected to play.
Purdy hasn’t been as sharp as he was last season. He threw 31 TD passes leading the Niners to 12 wins but has just 13 through 10 games. His completion percentage has dipped more than three points and yards per attempt are also down. The biggest change, however, has come on defense. The Niners are allowing five points per game more than they conceded last year and they are turning the ball over more. They had 18 giveaways all last season and are already at 13 through 10 games.
The Packers are in the thick of the playoff race and have a shot at the NFC North title, two games behind Detroit. A loss to the Lions in Week 9 is the Pack’s only setback in their last six games. Their last three wins were by a total of six points and they’ve failed to cover the spread in their last four outings.
The past three games between the teams have been decided by a total of eight points with the Niners prevailing in the last two. The teams are evenly matched in a number of statistical categories setting the stage for another tight matchup. Jordan Love has thrown a NFL high tying 11 interceptions this season and tossed a pair in his only start against the Niners in last season’s playoff game. SF has just been too inconsistent and their defense has several holes allowing the Packers to do enough offensively to cover the 2.5-point line. Both teams also like to run the football leading to longer drives and a total UNDER the total.
