First place in the NFC West is on the line on Thursday night, as the San Francisco 49ers visit the Seattle Seahawks on Prime Video. The 49ers come into the game with a record of 2-3, while the Seahawks are 3-2. Each team is coming off a disappointing loss last week, as the 49ers were shocked at home by the Arizona Cardinals, while the Seahawks were beaten at home by the New York Giants. The 49ers have dominated the Seahawks of late, winning the last five meetings and covering the NFL betting spread in four of the five games. Three of the five games went under the total. What is wrong with the 49ers? Not many people expected San Francisco to have a losing record after five weeks. There is no question that the 49ers miss Christian McCaffrey but it is not that simple. San Francisco is struggling to score in the red zone and their defense has been leaky. The short week is definitely not going to help San Francisco’s cause with their injury concerns. It is unknown as of this writing if the 49ers will get McCaffrey back this week. One thing that is certain is that the 49ers will need another kicker. Jake Moody suffered an ankle injury last week and he will not be playing anytime soon.
The 49ers are 2-3 SU and 2-3 ATS with three of their five games going under the total. They are averaging 25.2 points per game which is 10th in the league, but that number is really not very good considering they are 2nd in total yards per game. They are giving up 21.2 points per game which is 12th in the league. Jordan Mason leads the team in rushing with 536 yards, Brock Purdy has thrown for 1,374 yards, while Jauan Jennings leads the team with 377 receiving yards.
The Seahawks played poorly last week and dropped their second straight game after starting the season 3-0. Seattle was very poor on offense for much of the game and they made a number of key mistakes in the loss against the Giants. DK Metcalf continues to give the ball away and his fumble against the Giants was a key turning point in the loss. Seattle’s defense has also shown cracks lately that may not get fixed before Thursday’s game against the 49ers.
Seattle is 3-2 SU and 1-3-1 ATS with four of their five games going over the total. They are averaging 24.4 points per game which ranks 11th in the league and they are giving up 22.8 points per contest which is 18th in the league. Kenneth Walker leads the team in rushing with 202 yards, Geno Smith has thrown for 1,466 yards, while DK Metcalf leads the team with 421 receiving yards.

This is a tough call in terms of the side, as neither team is playing well right now. The 49ers have owned the series of late, but I don’t like what I have seen from San Francisco of late. Losing that game against the Cardinals was simply inexcusable and there may be more problems with San Francisco than people realize. The Seahawks are definitely not world beaters, but Mike Macdonald is a good coach and I think he will have the team ready to go on Thursday night. Both offenses have looked good for the most part this season and neither defense is playing well right now, so I will parlay the Seahawks plus the points with the game over the total.
