The Philadelphia Eagles are considered one of the premiere teams in the NFC heading into the 2019-20 regular season at online sportsbooks. But Nick Foles is no longer on the roster, so it’s high time the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft lives up to the lofty expectations that came with that selection and join his teammates on the playing field for a full 16-game season instead of being a cheerleader on the sideline. That hasn’t been a reality each of the last two seasons, and you can’t help but think that eats at Carson Wentz every time he wakes up. This is the season. The time is now! The Eagles want back in the Super Bowl and the only way they get there is if he outperforms at the very least one of the futures props devised for him this season.
Total Passing Yards: 4250.5
Total Passing TD: 30.5
Wentz signed a huge contract extension this past offseason. With it comes the added pressure of not only staying healthy, but living up to the money Philadelphia graciously threw his way even though the overall performance on the playing field didn’t warrant it. When healthy, he’s proved to be an MVP-caliber talent evidenced by his exceptional 2017-18 campaign that saw him throw for 3,296 yards and a 33:7 TD/INT ratio before unfortunately succumbing to a season-ending injury. He looked to be well on his way towards bettering that output last season in amassing 3,074 passing yards and a 102.2 QB rating before the injury bug struck again. He’s said to be leaner this season after changing his diet in the offseason. Hopefully less weight on the frame allows for the body to absorb hits better and allow him to recover quicker. If it does, a memorable season could be in store with the Eagles roster the most loaded it’s been since his City of Brotherly Love arrival.
Season Outlook
Only the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams have shorter odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIV. On top of that, the Eagles are lined heavy -153 chalk to walk away with the NFC East crown. They’re also one of just five teams that own a double-digit season win total. In other words, the Eagles are expected to be major players and have a great shot at acquiring the city’s second Super Bowl title in the last three seasons. All of it will however go for naught should Wentz once again fail to see it all the way through with Nate Sudfeld and his zero career starts the expected backup. With no wiggle room this time around, it’s time for Wentz to put up or shut up!

Schedule Breakdown
A grand total of two cream puff matchups reside on the Eagles schedule this season when going by last season’s defensive outputs. Both of them – in Atlanta and at home against the Jets – occur the first five weeks of the season. Of the remaining 14 matchups, five are to come against what were the toughest defenses for opposing quarterbacks to deal with a short season ago. The stretch from Week 6 to 9 is nightmarish to say the least with the Vikings, Cowboys, Bills and Bears on the docket leading up to a much deserved Week 10 bye. It’s a cakewalk from there however with games set to go against the Patriots, Seahawks, Dolphins and Redskins average pass defenses. Should Wentz get out to a slow start, he’ll have an excellent opportunity to make up some ground at the tail end of the season to put his supporters in a position to cash futures odds tickets at offshore sportsbooks.
The Bets
Doug Pederson and company made some really nice moves this past offseason to shore up the offense that ranked No. 14 overall and No. 18 in scoring. Bringing DeSean Jackson back to Philly was an excellent move to take advantage of Wentz’s deep ball prowess. You can be sure the duo will connect on a number of huge scoring strikes! Alshon Jeffery is still one of the best in the business, while Nelson Agholor has shown glimpses of stardom in the past. Add to the mix a revamped rushing attack with Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders now in the fold, and you got the recipe for one of the more lethal offensive attacks in the game. Especially with one of the best offensive lines holding it all together; it enters the season ranked No. 1 by Pro Football Focus.
The only thing needed to make it all work is Wentz staying healthy. While he hasn’t come close to hitting the 4,000 passing yard threshold over the course of his three played seasons, he also hasn’t partaken in full 16 game allotments each of the last two seasons. That right there lies the question - should we trust that it all comes together this season? I’m going to say no and force him to prove me wrong. While all the pieces are no doubt there for Philadelphia to live up to its lofty expectations, none of it will occur if Wentz can’t stay on the field. There’s a reason the under for both of his futures props are chalky at top rated sportsbooks!
