Cincinnati Bengals Season Win Total Odds

After 16 seasons on the job, the Cincinnati Bengals finally parted ways with Marvin Lewis this offseason. Lewis made the woeful Bengals respectable after the franchise was the NFL’s laughing stock throughout the 1990s, and he took the team to the playoffs seven times. However, he failed to win a postseason game during any of those trips and that dubious achievement coupled with three straight losing seasons led to his departure. Former Nebraska quarterback Zac Taylor is the new man in charge of the Bengals, and there is about to be a major culture shift. He was just 20 years old when Lewis came to Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Bengals
Over 6 Wins -118
Under 6 Wins -102

Although there is a new sheriff in charge, the oddsmakers are still bearish when it comes to the Bengals. Cincinnati finished with six wins in two of the last three seasons, and that’s exactly how many games the Bengals are predicted to win in 2019.

This is a rather peculiar schedule. Cincinnati will play five road games before their bye week, and they will play three NFC West teams in their first five games. The Bengals close with three games against the AFC East and two games with the Cleveland Browns in their final five games. There is a real chance they are favored just once all season, at home against Arizona in Week 5.

The Bengals had 10 picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, and that gave Cincinnati the opportunity to restock the cupboard at a lot of positions. Jonah Williams is expected to immediately slide into a starting spot along the offensive line alongside last year’s first round pick Billy Price, and the hope is that will give Andy Dalton protection.

Linebackers Germaine Pratt and Deshaun Davis could compete for starting spots as this was one of the NFL’s worst defenses last season, and the linebacking corps was not very good.

Cincinnati Bengals 2019 Prediction

Taylor was hired to provide a spark for an offense that has some talent at the skill positions. AJ Green is one of the best receivers in the league, and Tyler Boyd emerged as a solid No. 2 option last year. Joe Mixon averaged nearly five yards per carry as a running back too, so this offense has playmakers.

There are two questions surrounding the offense though: one major and one minor. The major question mark is Andy Dalton and the quarterback position as a whole. Dalton has been an average quarterback at best, and at the age of 31, he isn’t going to get much better at this stage of his career. There isn’t a great option behind him either, unless Ryan Finley shows real flashes as a rookie.

If John Ross can become a reliable deep threat, that could really help this offense. Ross became the fastest man in NFL Combine history last year, but he had a strange rookie campaign. His catch rate of 36.2 percent was one of the worst numbers in the league, but a third of his receptions were for touchdowns. Taylor must find a better way to use him.

The offense must score points, because this defense is going to be abysmal. Cincinnati is very likely to have one of the worst five defenses in the NFL once more, and there are major questions in every position group. Geno Atkins is the only solid player on the roster, but the seven-time Pro Bowl selection can only do so much.

I think Cincinnati has a decent chance of finishing with the worst record in the league. If Cleveland is as good as people think they might be, the Bengals might not win a game in their division. I’m not a believer in Dalton having a turnaround at the age of 31 with a more offensive-minded coach and the defense is a mess. Take the under here.
