Favorite

Vic Fangio is the current favorite at odds of +700. He is the current defensive coordinator with Chicago and is getting a lot of credit for Chicago’s defensive success this season. The Bears finished as the top scoring defense in the NFL and No. 3 in total yards. It should be noted that Fangio has never been in the mix for a head coaching job in the past even though he has been in the NFL since the 1980’s, so that may be a red flag.

Other Contenders

Chuck Pagano has already interviewed in Denver and reports have said that he made a very favorable impression. Pagano has a strong resume and you can make a case he should be favored in the current odds instead of Fangio. Pagano was the head man with the Indianapolis Colts and he has a winning record as an NFL head coach. He would also work well with offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak and that seems to be a priority for Elway. The time to bet Pagano at BookMaker could be right now.

Flores is the current defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots and he already has four interviews lined up for current head coaching vacancies. Coaches working under Bill Belichick have instant credibility and Flores is a hot name right now.

Flores would really have to wow in his interview to convince the Denver Broncos they want to go with another defensive guy as their head coach after already making a mistake by hiring Vance Joseph. I think he is overvalued at odds of +900.

Zac Taylor is the current Los Angeles quarterbacks coach and he would be making a major step up the ladder, but Taylor does have previous experience as an NFL offensive coordinator.

Mike Munchak is very well respect in the NFL, but he didn’t have much success as head coach at Tennessee and he would not inspire much excitement if he got the head job in Denver. Munchak is the current offensive line coach in Pittsburgh.

Dennis Allen has done a really good job as the defensive coordinator of the Saints but it is hard to see how Elway would sell Allen as the head coach after he flopped as the head man with the Raiders.

Dave Toub is an assistant head coach and special teams coordinator with the Chiefs. His name has been thrown around as a contender for a head coaching job, but he seems like a bit of a reach for Elway and the Broncos.

Mike McCarthy would be a good hire for the Broncos, but reports are that McCarthy has no real interest in going to Denver. McCarthy really has his pick of where he wants to go and it appears he does not want to go to Denver.

Bruce Arians would probably be another good hire for the Broncos, but all reports are that Arians is only considering two teams and Denver is not one of those teams.
