The first week of the NFL season is finally here and it is time to set our fantasy football lineups for the first week. In theory you would think that there wouldn’t be a lot of decisions to make in Week 1 in terms of lineups, but the reality is that we have a lot of choices and a lot of things to consider. For example, just because you took Jimmy Garoppolo as your starting quarterback, doesn’t mean you will want to start him against the Minnesota defense. Let’s look at Week 1 Fantasy Football rankings.

Week 1 Quarterback Rankings
- Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints, vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers, vs. Chicago Bears
- Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers, vs. Kansas City Chiefs
- Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos
- Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings, vs. San Francisco 49ers
- Tom Brady, New England Patriots, vs. Houston Texans
- Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions, vs. New York Jets
- Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans at New England Patriots
- Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins
- Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns
Many people will put Rodgers in the top spot, but I am concerned about ranking him in the top spot because of Chicago’s improved defense led by Khalil Mack. I will go with a safer choice and take Brees in the top spot against the Bucs.
Week 1 Running Back Rankings
1. David Johnson, Arizona Cardinals vs. Washington Redskins
2. Todd Gurley, Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Raiders
3. Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4. Melvin Gordon, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
5. Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers
6. Leonard Fournette, Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Giants
7. Saquon Barkley, New York Giants vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
8. Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings vs. San Francisco 49ers
9. Jordan Howard, Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers
10. Le'Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns: 95 rushing yards
I think Johnson is going to have a monster season for Arizona and he should be at the top of the rankings a lot this year. I dropped Bell down quite a bit in these rankings, as he hadn’t even reported as of Monday.
Week 1 Wide Receiver Ranks
1. Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns
2. A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts
3. Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears
4. DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans at New England Patriots
5. Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
6. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles
7. Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
8. Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
9. Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos
10. Stefon Diggs, Minnesota Vikings vs. San Francisco 49ers
There are not too many surprises here, but I think Green is going to be a top receiver this season and bounce back with a huge year and I expect Adams to be the favorite receiver for Rodgers this season.
Week 1 Tight End Rankings
1. Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots vs. Houston Texans
2. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers
3. Trey Burton, Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers
4. Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys
5. Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings vs. San Francisco 49ers
6. Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins at Arizona Cardinals
7. Delanie Walker, Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins
8. Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons
9. David Njoku, Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
10. O.J. Howard, Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints
There are no surprises at the top with Gronkowski and Kelce, but I think Burton is going to be a huge surprise this season in Chicago and he has a good matchup in Week 1 against the Packers.
Week 1 Defense Rankings
1. Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills
2. Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Giants
3. New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4. Detroit Lions vs. New York Jets
5. Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Raiders
6. Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
7. Minnesota Vikings vs. San Francisco 49ers
8. Denver Broncos vs. Seattle Seahawks
9. Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts
10. Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins
The Ravens are the clear top choice here, as they will be going against Nathan Peterman and a bad Buffalo offense. The surprise in the rankings is the drop for the Vikings, but I have a lot of respect for the 49ers offense, so I can’t rank Minnesota’s defense that high.
Week 1 Kicker Rankings
1. Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills
2. Stephen Gostkowski, New England Patriots vs. Houston Texans
3. Greg Zuerlein, Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Raiders
4. Wil Lutz, New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
5. Matt Prater, Detroit Lions vs. New York Jets
6. Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons
7. Mason Crosby, Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears
8. Matt Bryant, Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles
9. Chris Boswell, Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns
10. Graham Gano, Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys
There is not much to say about kickers, as it is hard to predict from week to week what will happen, but it is hard to argue with Tucker and Gostkowski in the top two spots.
