First Look at NFL Draft Odds and Props

2018-First-Look-at-NFL-Draft-Odds-and-Props

We’ve gone a few months without football and fans are in need of a fix. And that’s just what they’re going to get next week with the 2018 NFL Draft set to hit the airwaves. We’ve had enough of mock drafts and projected selections, and on Thursday, April 26, we’ll finally find out where the best college football players from last season will end up. And along with the excitement of having your favorite NFL team change its fortunes with its draft class, fans can also wager on the event.

2018 NFL Draft

Round 1 – Thursday, April 26, 2018, 8 p.m. ET ( NFL Network, ESPN )
Rounds 2-3 – Friday, April 27, 2018, 7 p.m. ET ( NFL Network, ESPN )
Rounds 4-7 – Saturday, April 28, 2018, 12 p.m. ET ( NFL Network, ESPN, ABC )

There is plenty of speculation as to who will be the first overall pick in the draft, and yes, fans can make a wager on who they think will take the honors. From all accounts and the thousands of mock drafts by the so-called experts, USC’s Sam Darnold is the likely selection by the quarterback-starved Cleveland Browns to be the No. 1 overall pick. He’s also the heavy favorite at BookMaker.eu, coming off at -300.

But the draft rarely goes according to plan and there’s no guarantee the Brownies select a signal-caller after acquiring Tyrod Taylor. Their offense was a disaster last season and they could use a guy like Saquon Barkley to tote the rock, though the Penn State star might pull an Eli Manning and request that the Browns not select him.

There is a possibility that four quarterbacks will go in the first five picks with Josh Allen ( +175 ), Josh Rosen ( +1000 ) and Baker Mayfield ( +3300 ) headlining the quarterback-rich draft class. And as we’ve seen over the years, successful teams always have a standout signal-caller running the show.

2018 First Overall NFL Draft Pick Odds

Sam Darnold ( QB ) -300
Josh Allen ( QB ) +175
Saquon Barkley ( RB ) +400
Josh Rosen ( QB ) +1000
Baker Mayfield ( QB ) +3300
Bradley Chubb ( DE ) +3300
Minkah Fitzpatrick ( DB ) +6600
Field ( any other player ) +6600

On top of wagering who will be the first overall draft pick, BookMaker.eu offers a plethora of prop bets to spice up the event. One of the props is for the number of quarterbacks drafted in the first round. With such a rich crop of players available and several teams in search of their franchise signal-caller, this is a bet worth taking a look at.

Number of Quarterbacks Taken in the First Round of 2018 Draft

Over 5.5 +170
Under 5.5 -230

Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield and Allen are all expected to be gobbled up quickly, leaving two quarterbacks left to be taken to cash the over. And that’s a very reachable number. Louisville’s Lamar Jackson is projected to be a mid to late first-round pick and down at No. 31 on the draft board are the New England Patriots, who need a Tom Brady exit strategy now that Jimmy G is off in NorCal. Could a player like Mason Rudolph be the guy? If so, that’s six first-round QB selections.

Calvin Ridley Draft Position for 2018 NFL Draft

19.5 Over -110
19.5 Under -120

Ridley is easily the best wide receiver available in the draft and will be the first taken. It’s just a matter of where he ends up and at what position he’s selected. To get a better understanding, we need to look at teams in need of help at the position. That doesn’t guarantee a selection, but it certainly helps your chances of cashing this prop.

There are several teams in the middle of the draft order that could use a talented receiver. The Colts at No. 6 could use a weapon for Andrew Luck, but they have more glaring needs. Miami could use a pass catcher to replace Jarvis Landry, but they likely look to bolster a weak defense. Buffalo had little in terms of the passing game last season, but they need someone to throw the ball before anyone can catch it. Arizona at No. 15 is a likely landing spot and if taken, it cashes the under, though the payout isn’t large.
