First NFL Coach to be Fired Odds

First NFL Coach to be Fired

The table listed below relays the current odds for the first NFL coach to be fired as well as where they originally hit the board. A quick glance at online sportsbook’s offerings lets it be known who is safe and who finds their derrières situated on the hot seat entering the regular season. Mike McCarthy undoubtedly has the most pressure thrust upon his shoulders with the Dallas Cowboys coming off a train wreck of a 2020-21 campaign due to Dak Prescott succumbing to an early season-ending injury and the stop unit perfecting the art of the “Matador Defense.” Jerry wants to win now evidenced by this season’s installment of “Hard Knocks.” Is Mike Zimmer’s nine-year stay in the Twin Cities on the verge of coming to a close? The betting markets sure seem to think so with his odds of getting fired cut in half. And how about Mike Tomlin’s odds; very interesting! Other notables include Kliff Kingsbury of the Arizona Cardinals, Zac Taylor of the Cincinnati Bengals, Vic Fangio of the Denver Broncos, and Joe Judge of the New York Giants. Listed are suggestions for a favorite, underdog and long shot to invest in before the regular season kicks off.

Favorite to Bet: Matt Nagy +679

As a die-hard Chicago Bears fan, it makes me sick to know Nagy will be roaming the sidelines for another season. The fact that Ryan Pace is still the General Manager makes me want to vomit even more! I wanted Robert Saleh, but no!!!! We gotta give these guys one more shot says the McCaskey’s. Though the front office actually played it off like they knew what they were doing in the most recent NFL Draft, it would’ve been darn near impossible for them to screw it up with the gift that ultimately fell in their respective lap due to other front office’s shortsightedness. And yet, Nagy has elected to go with veteran Andy Dalton as his Week 1 starter; likely due to that inexplicable one-year deal worth up to $13M they signed him for six weeks before the draft. That right there is the endgame for me! Upper management and the coach simply don’t deserve to be running an NFL franchise. Burn it all down and let the door hit you in the arse repeatedly on the way out!

Underdog to Bet: Urban Meyer +3433

We’ve been down this road before with Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier. Neither’s stay in the NFL was very long with the former lasting all of two seasons in Miami and the latter mirroring his stay. When news first started to surface about Meyer heading to the NFL to coach the Jags, I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t until it was made official that I ultimately accepted it. It couldn’t have been about the money. While Urban has won wherever he’s roamed, college football players are a much different breed than that of professionals. They don’t stand for the drill sergeant “MO” these days, and the word on the streets is that it’s either Urban’s way or the highway. Whispers have already crept out of Jags’ camp that some players aren’t fans of how he goes about his business. I’m yet to see Meyer overlook a bad team. Jacksonville isn’t very good. If things spiral out of control early, it’ll be interesting to see if Urban’s heart was really in it. I’m betting it isn’t!

Longshot to Bet: Bruce Arians +7500

I’m not sure a defending Super Bowl champion coach has ever been fired the following season, but there’s a first for everything; right? Hear me out first before you cast judgement. While the betting markets have soaked a ton of value out of the opener, there’s still enough there to get involved should everything head south in 2021-22. I truly believe the Tampa Bay Buccaneers weren’t the best team in the NFL last season. They simply got hot and took major advantage of empty stadiums and injuries en route to winning the second title in franchise history. Most are already anointing the Bucs winners of the NFC South, but I beg to differ. Carolina is going to be greatly improved, while New Orleans still has Sean Payton roaming the sideline. Heck, even Atlanta competed regardless of Tom Brady throwing for a gazillion yards in both matchups. Arians has already seen his odds to get fired first plummet from the opener, and I think the betting markets are onto something. Call me crazy, but Brady’s second go round as the Bucs QB1 won’t go nearly as smooth as the first time around and Arians could be the fall guy because of it.
