One by one, the pieces of the Jacksonville Jaguars fantastic defense that took on the moniker of #Sacksonville have been stripped away from the roster. Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Los Angeles Rams last season. Calais Campbell was shipped off to Baltimore this past offseason. The Jags other corner back, A.J. Bouye, was sent to Denver. While Yannick Ngakoue was franchised by the Jaguars, he doesn’t want to be in Jacksonville so there’s a high probability he won’t be donning a Jaguars jersey once the 2020-21 regular season kicks off. The defense began its rebuild in the NFL Draft and then in free agency. Another dose of “Minshew Mania” is in store for Duval County this season, but he’s more or less just keeping the seat warm for Trevor Lawrence. Is 2020 the year of the tank for the Jags? Those setting the lines at online sportsbook certainly think so with Jacksonville’s 4.5-game season win total the shortest on the board!
Jacksonville Jaguars Season Win Total: 4.5
What a colossal step back it’s been for this franchise! It’s only three seasons removed that Doug Marrone and his staff led the squad to a 10-win regular season that ultimately ended in the AFC title game against New England after the defense wilted under the pressure of Tom Brady and allowed the Patriots to pull off the fourth quarter comeback to secure the win that punched their ticket to yet another Super Bowl. Since then, the team has amassed 5-11 and 6-10 records that saw them go a bankroll killing 12-18-2 ATS combined. The offense managed a pedestrian 18.8 points per game a season ago, so it hardly came as a surprise to see them bring up the rear of the AFC South standings with the defense doing the team no favors by surrendering nearly 25 points per game. Things have gotten so bad for this franchise that its season win total is three-games less than it was in 2019-20. Seriously, how did Marrone keep his job??
Minshew was far and away the best quarterback the team had to offer a season ago. He threw for over 3,200 yards and owned a 21:6 TD/INT ratio. Even so, the rook was eerily inconsistent and failed to put forth NFL caliber numbers; a 60.6 completion percentage simply won’t cut it at the NFL level. The keys to the Jaguars car will be all his however with guys like Mike Glennon, Joshua Dobbs and rookie Jake Luton serving as his backups. The former Wazzou Cougar does however have some excellent targets to sling the pigskin to with the star of the wide receiver corps being none other than DJ Chark who opened some eyes in his first full season in the league by reeling in 73 receptions and turning them into 1,008 yards and 8 TD. Add Dede Westbrook, Chris Conley, Keelan Cole and rookie Laviska Shenault Jr. to the mix, and the Jaguars should be able march one of the more exciting wide receiver corps onto the field every passing week.
But can they stop anybody? That my friends is the million dollar question everyone betting Jacksonville’s season win total odds would love to know. It simply wasn’t the case last season even with guys like Ramsey and Campbell on the roster early on. If nothing else, the franchise improved itself on the defensive side of the ball with its first two picks in the NFL Draft. Some scouts had C.J. Henderson ahead of Jeff Okudah on their corner back rankings. If that turns out to be the case, Jacksonville did well landing him with the ninth pick. The Jags also secured a stud along the defense line when K’Lavon Chaisson fell to them at No. 20 after being predicted to go off the board in the mid-teens. He played a huge role in the LSU Tigers recent national championship run. Shenault should also become an offensive contributor in year one as well.

Jacksonville Jaguars Schedule Analysis
The Jags get the NFC and AFC North and games against the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers outside of divisional play. In all, Jacksonville’s strength of schedule ranks out as the 13th toughest overall, while their division opponents check in at No. 32, No. 31 and No. 12. Though the Texans schedule strength is in the same ball park, Houston’s odds of winning the division offer up a +365 return. The Jaguars check in at +2400! Only the Bengals and Redskins have longer odds of winning their respective divisions! But can the Jags somehow find a way to squeak out five wins after logging six a season ago? Much of that will depend on the consistency of Minshew and Leonard Fournette rediscovering the compass that leads him to the end zone. Since hitting pay dirt nine times in his rookie campaign, the former Heisman Trophy candidate has scored a combined eight touchdowns the last two seasons. It’s darn near close to impossible to find five wins on what looks to be a very tough schedule on paper. Maybe they defeat the Fins at home in Week 3; maybe not. Maybe they go into Cincinnati in Week 4 and beat the Joe Burrow led Bengals; maybe not. Maybe they hold serve against the Lions at home in Week 6 right before the bye; maybe not. That’s simply just way too many maybes for my taste! Hit the under if you must, but keep a close eye on the team’s progress. Especially later in the season when their opponents could be way overpriced!
