Jared Goff Props – Passing Yards and Touchdowns

Jared Goff Props – Passing Yards and Touchdowns

Now in the third season of the Sean McVay regime, The Los Angeles Rams are again one of the favorites to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIV. How could they not after winning a league-high 13 regular season games and going on to partake in the big game against the New England Patriots a season ago? The offense was one of the main reasons why the team achieved so much success, and it once again looks to be one of the premiere attacks the league has to offer. Though Jared Goff fizzled out in a big way at the tail end of the season, there were reasons for it. The loss of Cooper Kupp was huge and Todd Gurley running out of steam didn’t help matters. Each is back and ready to go in 2019-20, and online sportsbooks have the Rams QB1 locked in for another big showing in the passing yardage and touchdown departments.

Total Passing Yards: 4300.5
Total Passing TD: 27.5

As is the case with just about every quarterback getting recognition for the upcoming season, the betting markets are fading the action. That’s precisely the case with Goff who currently has median-sized vigorish attached to the under of both future imposts. Though he ended up throwing for 216 yards or less in four of his final five regular season games, he still went on to amass 4,688 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. The former output saw him rank out No. 4 in the league in passing yards behind Matt Ryan, Patrick Mahomes and Ben Roethlisberger. That’s some pretty solid company right there! The 32 touchdowns ranked No. 7 tied with both Drew Brees and Philip Rivers. Many are worried that the timeshare in the backfield to keep Gurley fresh will prevent No. 16 from building upon the best outputs of his career, but I beg to differ. Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods and Kupp make up arguably the best wide receiver trio in the game when 100 percent healthy. Gerald Everett and Tyler Higbee also combined for 612 receiving yards and 5 TD last season; enough said!

Season Outlook

Only the Saints have shorter odds than the Rams to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Los Angeles is also the decided -174 odds on favorite to win the NFC West a third straight season, and enters the regular season with a 10.5-game season win total. LA went off the board favored to win all 16 of its regular season games in 2018-19, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if that were to once again be the case this upcoming season. Trips to Cleveland and Pittsburgh will however put that streak on notice. While the Rams are expected to play with the lead in a bulk of their games, pulling in the reins on Gurley might just be the added boost Goff needs to ultimately surpass his season long props at top rated sportsbooks. More opportunity is likely to lead to more success should that turn out to be the case.

Schedule Breakdown

Making the decision to ride Goff victoriously into the sunset is the fact that he’s the owner of one of the more manageable schedules in terms of quarterback strength. It currently checks in at No. 8 with No. 32 being the toughest. There isn’t a single opponent that ranks out as above average through the first half of the regular season, though road trips to Cleveland and Seattle could be tough. He also gets the pleasure of tearing apart the Cincinnati Bengals poor excuse of a secondary heading into the off week. At worst, he should be halfway towards eclipsing both his passing yards and touchdown pass imposts at top rated sportsbooks by then. As fun the first half was, the back half is a nightmare with the Rams scheduled to lock horns with the Bears, Ravens, Cardinals (twice) and Cowboys. But three of those matchups take place in the Coliseum where the onus will be on the defenses to silence Goff and company in their own house.

The Bets

With the offense returning almost completely intact and the schedule setting up nicely for success, there’s no way I’m stepping in front of Goff taking another step forward in this his third full season leading McVay’s offensive attack. The Rams no doubt feel as if there’s unfinished work to tend to after laying an enormous egg against the Patriots last season. With that, I don’t foresee any sort of mercy in the cards. Add to that an influx of passing attempts due to the coaching staff limiting Gurley’s overall workload, and I’m bullish on Goff bettering his throwing outputs from a season ago. With that, I’ll be fading the betting markets and hitting the over on both future prop categories at offshore sportsbooks.
