Josh Allen Props – Passing Yards and Touchdowns

Josh Allen Props – Passing Yards and Touchdowns

The Buffalo Bills surprised many an NFL Draft bettor back in 2018 when it selected Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen with the No. 7 overall pick. After throwing more interceptions than touchdowns through six career starts, Sean McDermott and company was only left shaking their heads wondering if they made the right choice. But after the rookie returned from the IR in Week 12, he started to give upper management and the fan base some hope that he was indeed their quarterback of the future. It’s safe to assume the sophomore quarterback won’t throw more interceptions than touchdowns in 2019-20. In fact, he could come out of nowhere and be one of the big surprises of the season at online sportsbooks with the infusion of young talent brought to the team via the draft and the heady veteran offseason wide receiver signings.

Total Passing Yards: 3250.5
Total Passing TD: 17.5

Season Outlook

At 100-1 to win Super Bowl LIV and 53-1 to represent the AFC in the big game, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that the 2019-20 Buffalo Bills won’t be a factor in winning it all this season. However, it doesn’t mean it won’t continue building the foundation that has them set to compete in the very near future. There’s lot’s to like about the Bills this season. It starts with a defense that sat only behind the Baltimore Ravens in terms of total yardage conceded a season ago. Should Tremaine Edwards and company continue to excel on that side of the ball, it should give the offense the breathing room needed to find itself early and become a force deeper into the season. The AFC East is the defending champs to lose, but the battle for second place should be very interesting with the Bills and Jets very much so improved. Heavy juice on the over of Buffalo’s 7-game season win total lends credence to that postulation.

Schedule Breakdown

The NFC East is expected to boast some pretty solid pass defenses this upcoming season. Allen had issues in his lone appearances against the Jets and Patriots, but shined in arguably his best two played games at the NFL level against the Dolphins. His toughest opponent the first six weeks of the season figures to come against the Titans in Tennessee Week 5. After the Week 6 bye, the Broncos, Cowboys and Ravens are the only three teams that had pass defenses rank out amongst the best in the league. While the NFL landscape changes dramatically from season-to-season, the strength of the schedule as it currently stands is far from intimidating. It ranks No. 17 overall and offers up some pristine opportunities for Allen to go HAM with home games set to go against the Bengals in Week 3 and Eagles in Week 8.

The Bets

Depending upon how the season opener shakes out against the division rival Jets, the Bills will be in a position to get out to an excellent start to their 2019 campaign. If everything goes as planned, they could enter the bye owners of a 4-1 or 5-0 straight up record should they finally figure out a way to beat New England. If that were to occur, those that hit the over on their season win total will no doubt be grinning from ear-to-ear. Should it become reality, Allen must play a headier brand of football. He was way too careless with the ball for my tastes, but again, he was only a rookie. Still, marked improvement will need to be had if he’s to have any shot of proving linemakers wrong at top rated sportsbooks and cash in on his futures odds for the few bettors supporting him. Heck, there’s currently -200 juice attached to the under of his passing yards!

Expecting him to throw eight more touchdowns than he did a season ago could prove to be a bit rich since he’s shown absolutely no reservations about tucking and running when the situation presents itself. But with John Brown readily able to catch up to the bombs launched by his powerful arm and Cole Beasley bringing his possession attributes to the offense, I envision him greatly improving upon last year’s passing yards output. With that, I’ll hit the over there but make Allen prove to me he’s taken a step forward in his progression by hitting the under at top rated sportsbooks on the touchdown prop.
