The propositional betting market certainly enjoys a player like Lamar Jackson. With his unique skill set at the most important position on the football field, oddsmakers go crazy coming up with props for him. So of course this season offers a bunch of wagering opportunities on what the Baltimore Ravens quarterback might accomplish. Jackson has done plenty in his brief career winning a MVP award while directing the highest scoring offense in the NFL in 2019. QBs aren’t usually tagged with a prop for rushing yards, but Jackson is a different, or maybe new, breed of player in the NFL. Let’s take a look at some of Jackson’s wagers on the prop bet menu to see where bettors can win some coin.
Lamar Jackson Prop Bet Odds
Total Passing Yards
Over 3,450.5 +103
Under 3,450.5 -127
This is an interesting number since throwing the football is the thing to do in the NFL. And considering the Ravens want Jackson to become more of a passer and less of a runner taking the OVER seems like the right move. In his two full seasons at the helm Jackson topped out at 3,127 yards during his 2019 MVP season. That number plummeted to just 2,757 in 2020. The Ravens added Sammy Watkins and drafted Rashod Bateman with their first pick to bolster the receiving corps tempting Jackson to use his arm more.
But, the Ravens are a throwback team under John Harbaugh playing smashmouth football with dominance at the line of scrimmage. When it works, and the plan has been hugely successful in Harbaugh’s tenure, the ground game will be featured prominently. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman is in line with that thinking and the Ravens are a run-first team having topped the NFL in rushing yards the last two seasons. Jackson should improve his passing numbers in 2021 but even with an additional game on the slate I’m leading toward the UNDER for this prop.
Total Passing Touchdowns
Over 26.5 -112
Under 26.5 -112
Even with an offense geared toward running the football, Jackson has put up good numbers in this area. He actually led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes in 2019 and had 26 scoring tosses last season. The OVER is definitely in play in this market. We mentioned the additions at wide receiver and those players should open things up for tight end Mark Andrews. With his height and ability to get the football, Andrews is a prime red-zone target with 17 touchdown receptions over the past two seasons.
Though Jackson had a ‘down’ year in 2020, he barely missed going over this year’s total. The offense appears to be in a better place with an upgraded offensive line and more depth at receiver. Give Jackson a stronger group of pass catchers, a completely healthy Andrews and one extra game to fiddle with and I’ll be back the OVER on this prop.
Total Rushing Yards
Over 945.5 -115
Under 945.5 -115
The Ravens would love to see Jackson move on from his running ways and they’ve worked tirelessly with him to become more of a pocket quarterback. However, as the old saying goes, a leopard never changes its spots. And do the Ravens really want Jackson to abandon a dimension of his game that’s been so successful his entire career? I would venture to say no. Therefore, watching Jackson run through and around opposing defenses will just add to his legacy and Baltimore’s win total.
Of course the risk of injury is always a concern and something that will undermine over bettors in any prop bet. But running the football is something Jackson does better than any QB in the league. He surpassed 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons and would have done so in 2018 had he played the entire season. His 1,005 yards in 2020 were good enough to rank him in the top-10 among all players. I’m backing the OVER in this one.
