The New York Jets cleaned house this past offseason and made a number of moves both in free agency and the NFL Draft in hopes of becoming a prominent player in a division that’s been ruled by the New England Patriots since the turn of the century. The Jets have only won the division once during that stretch with the Pats entering 2019-20 having come out on top of the standings each of the last 10 years! To think New York has a realistic shot to dethrone the reigning champs could be foolish, but some immense improvement is expected of this club this year by its fan base, coaching staff and most importantly, online sportsbooks. Call me crazy, but New York’s odds to win Super Bowl LIV won’t be nearly as lucrative as the current 75-1 pay-off offers up the further along we move into the upcoming campaign.

New York Jets Odds
As already mentioned, the Jets offer up a sweet +7500 payoff if they were indeed to go on and win the Super Bowl. Their odds of winning the AFC check in at 37-1, and they’re expected to finish second in the AFC East evidenced by their +535 payout to unseat the Pats. For a team that won a total of four games in Todd Bowles’ last go round as head coach, their current 7.5-game season win total odds are quite the eye opener. It makes sense though with all the moves made to bolster not only the roster but also the coaching staff in hopes of competing for AFC East titles in the very near future – if not 2019!
The huge offseason signing of Le’Veon Bell gives Sam Darnold the running game he so sorely needed a season ago to really evolve the Jets passing game. Say what you will about the offensive line with the folks at Pro Football Focus ranking it No. 28 overall; installing Bell into any backfield will allow for the masking of some issues and allow it to greatly improve upon its stats. The positives don’t end there however! Giving Darnold a huge possession receiver in Jamison Crowder could prove to be huge, and a healthy Quincy Enunwa will prevent opposing defenses from clamping down on Robby Anderson. By season’s end, New York’s offense will be one of the most improved in the league! Then there’s the huge defensive additions in CJ Mosley via free agency and Clelin Ferrell in the draft. Things are looking up in the Big Apple - at least for the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!
In or Out?
In my heart of hearts, I truly believe either the Buffalo Bills or New York Jets find a way to get themselves into the playoffs this season. I like the moves both franchises made in the offseason to shore up the club on both sides of the ball, and expect them all to payoff sooner rather than later. Half of New York’s defeats came by one score or less last season, and there’s no doubt in my mind they sweep the division rival Dolphins this season after allowing Miami to do it to them a year ago. While the schedule doesn’t offer up many mail it in type weeks with the aforementioned Fins, Giants, Redskins, Raiders and Bengals likely to be the only opponents not having a shot at the playoffs this season, I feel the talent level has been increased enough to the point that the franchise’s first postseason appearance in eight years is certainly within the realm of possibility. So, pick your poison – Go with the Jets or Bills on the NFL betting lines as one of those two AFC East members that punches a ticket to the second season!
